I was reading on shorediving.com about 2 dive sites near Waikiki. I was wondering what you all had to say about them.

Magic Island and Koke'e Park

Is the walk to the entry really that far away at Magic Island? What is the distance?

I haven't given up on Electric Beach, but I want more options in case the waves are too high there.

Anybody here planning any shore dives next week? We plan to dive Monday afternoon and again Wed and Thurs after our boat dives.

Magic Island isn't that great, but it is okay. Yes, the walk is that far. I would estimate the walk as 1/8 mile (just feels further with all your gear on). Make sure you get the easiest way out of the lagoon. We don't use the lagoon to get out, we go out through the channel. It is easier that way. There were some fish, but not much else there (don't know if anyone else has seen anything to terribly exciting on their dives). Depending if I work next week, I might be able to meet you somewhere and get in a dive or two. Won't know about work until Thursday afternoon.

I have The Oahu Snorkelers and Shore Divers Guide in front of me and it does indicate to go in along the channel side. I'm so desperate to get in the water that I don't think I care if don't see more than a few fish :)

Thanks-maybe we'll get to meet next week.

Choppersrule would be a good dive buddy to go with. Next monday I'll be off...I'll check back on the thread and see if I can meet you then. I'm an MSD with over 160+ dives and know the island pretty well. Glad to join you for a few dives. All depends on the waves and runoff what is possible to dive lately. Even tho I live here, I've got the same attitude..."the ocean is calling me to dive!!!".

Hey, that would be great. I'll be sure to post a thread just before I leave here and include my cell (but that would be long distance for you folks in HI) and our hotel number and name.

My husband is very experienced and is a DM but he has never shore dived in HI and I have never shore dived period. All my experience is off boats :D
I'm dying to try shore diving. We would both welcome any locals buddying up with us.

Just send me a private message with all your info and I'll return it with the same. That way you won't have to post it here. I love your "handle". My one sister is a Mickey and we often just call her 'mouse'.

OK, I'll do that.

I have loved Mickey since I was little. I decided to get a tattoo and needed something so I had this created for me. Mickey in scuba gear seemed perfect. Now I just have to decide where to put him on my body :D

I have a mickey mouse tat on my right ankle. I got it 15 years ago (wow- doesn't seem that long). Hopefully I will be off so I can meet up with you all. Hey discdogs- I got the pictures from all your dives. Did you enjoy Maui?

I would go to point panic on the other side of Kewalo Boat Harbor instead of Magic Island. It's a short walk to the water, realatively easy dive, you can get to Kewalo pipe from there.

I have added Point Panic (geez, that name!) to my list. But I can't find a description of the dive site. Is there another name for it?
