Hello everyone!

It is an exciting time for me as I am about to complete my OW this coming weekend.
Im going down to Ohio to Gilboa and from the website it looks amazing!

I was just looking for some opinions/experiences from other divers that have dove there before.

What can I expect? (besides crappy weather this weekend lol)

Thanks

You might try looking underneath North American clubs- particularly the Great Lakes Wrecking crew...

If you are in a wetsuit it might feel a little chilly, but chances are pretty good that you will have enough enthusiasm to not even feel it. (there are multiple posts about keeping warm which may help). A thermos of hot chocolate will make you buddies for life, or at least a weekend...

A whole variety pack of things to see and do. I fathom you will like it for several of your future dives as well... (enough to see that it will take quite a few visits, and has some deeper parts that will serve as a "one day when I'm ready".

A couple of weekends ago the temp was in the 45'ish range and the vis was in the 15' range during the daytime and seemed to clear up a good bit in the evening and morning (less divers).

Have fun and let us know how it goes!

It's a fun place to dive - you will enjoy it. The temp are about 45 in the shallows. The platforms and docks are very diver friendly..as are the folks who frequent Gilboa. We may see U there..

I dove White Star and Portage (very near there) for my OW cert dives last year. You can expect to be... well ... cold. :)

"Wow, this 7 mil suit is uncomfortable... I really don't see why this is necessary, I'm actually overheating on the surface... hey look that hazy layer must be the thermocline.... <feet pass hazy layer> HOLY *#^$#!" :)

You'll have a ball. Relax and enjoy it. I want to go to Gilboa and check out the jet this summer.

We dove Gilboa on Holoween last fall. Vis was great 60 ft plus hard to believe for a quarry. You may want to aquire some firewood as there are plenty of fire pits, if not there may be some friendly divers willing to share. Have a great time, there is a really good resteruant in town Something with a Pig great ribs.....Maybe someone that lives there would know the name.

Gilboa is one of my farorite inland dives. A lot of it might be hard to apreciate by some one doing their OW dives but if diving traffic is low the vis is usually great. You'll see huge bass (large and small mouth) and some absolutely monster trout as well as some really cool UW landscapes...not to mention all the fresh water sponge.

As others have mentioned temps are probably still a bit cool this time of year.

Um....I'm supposed to be at Gilboa trying out a new gear config this weekend. Crappy weather, eh?
