I had a couple of good dives there on sat. However, someone helped themselves to my buddy's digital bottom timer from one of the upper deepside dressing tables. I can only hope it was an unintentional mistake. If it was, just pass it to Mike the next time you're up there...no harm, no foul

If not, shame on you! As divers, we work hard for our gear and respect the gear of others. In all the years I've been going there, I've never had to think about locking up my stuff to use the head or grab a soda. If you took it intentionally, you're a filthy thief and an a-hole who does not deserve to being in the same company as the rest of the Gilboa divers.

I had 4 great dives on the weekend. The OW went excellent and I didnt have any problems at all. I was really surprised with my air consumption. I few of the guys had about 600psi at the end of their dives and I was lucky enough to have about 1500 left so I was able to go out a bit longer then the rest.

After being so nervous about how cold it was going to be, and not believing everyone when they told me Id be fine. I was plesantly surprised that I survived and didnt freeze my b@lls off. I think in a year though I might start looking for a dry suit!!! :)

I would definately reccomend the trip to Ohio to any new divers looking to gain some experience. There were some great sights to see (although I didnt get to see the paddlefish) the airplane and the bus were definately cool to swim through. And who doesnt enjoy a good slap in the face from a trout!

I cant wait to plan my next dive!
Thanks again to everyone here for all the help and knowledge/experience. It was great

Just in case...

DUI has a really nice event called "dog days". They pretty much tour the country with a truck load of drysuits, & underwear. Check out their web site for more specific details. June 3rd and 4th they are going to be at Gilboa. Cost to participate with them is something like $8 per day and they even feed you a nice dinner. Lots of participating dealers help out, typically acting as "guides" making sure that all is well with you, the suit etc. It is almost expected that the folks participating are new to the dry suit thing so everyone is prepared to offer help, suggestions advice etc. You still have to pay the quarry entry fees, air etc, but all in all it is a fantastically easy way to learn about dry suits, try on a bunch of different DUI styles, and get some more dives in. Trying on lots of different styles and sizes also gives you a pretty good idea of what works, what doesn't and/or what you may like and/or don't.

Downsides are probably that you will want to buy a drysuit, and you will probably lean towards buying a DUI... nature of the beast...

My LDS didn't have any drysuits to try on, so this event gave me a chance to try drysuits, and make notes about sizing and style... and then to my great fortune I happened across one on EBAY. I wouldn't necessarily suggest going the EBAY route (if it had a torn seal, or bad valve my saved money would have gone away quickly into the repairs) but KNOWING your size will at least have you ready if a buddy or who ever one day mentions that they were thinking of selling...

But at the very least it will get you back in the water, and that is going to help a lot !

The weekend of June 3/4 is DUI demo days at Gilboa. If you are thinking about a dry suit this is a great opportunity to try one out. Be warned, it will be crowded that weekend.

I'm going to be up there, but have to miss the dry suit portion this year (taking a class).

Sort of a bummer really, now that I've been diving a particular model a few times, I'd really like to do it again to really compare things (thickness of undies in particular). All in due time I suppose!

Sorry to hear about that Jchoby. That could sure ruin a nice weekend.
I happened to have lost my #$%^ camera when I went too... it sucks :(

You might be able to get in a dive in a dry suit during your class, depending on what clas you are taking.

Also, if you get your name on the list, depending on how late your class is going to run, you might be able to get in a test dive after your class.
Kristi and Charlie planning on comming up with you?

OMG- I've heard of divers getting gear snatched when there were a lot of non-divers around, but that is usually not the case at Gilboa. I am surprised this happened. Lets hope it was an accident- somebody thought their buddy left it or something. Was his BT marked?

I think we are going to be pushing for every second of time... that's my guess at least.

Yes Charlie and Kristi are coming up- - or that was the last I heard. Last plan was they were coming up for the drysuits on Saturday and then heading to Portage on Sunday. Hmmm just thinking about that, saturday's are usually the "busy" day with the drysuits... they might have better luck switching that plan around- - what do you think?
