TorontoDive:
I've never been on a charter boat but from the link posted by boulderjohn there were 26 divers aboard the boat....isn't that a lot of divers? How many divemasters were there and how come they decided to separate from the DM?

The dives I did on the GBR were not DM led dives, such as you find in Cozumel. Usually, there was a dive briefing that described the site, and then you and your buddy navigate the area on your own.

It's on now in case anyone forgot, so-so show so far. I like forensic type shows any way, and I usually watch "The Investigators" any chance I get. I just consider the diving a bonus to it if they don't reveal anything new.

For those not able to watch right now, it's showing again at 2am EST (Friday May 27).

This is why I question if people have the right couple that this is based on:
Deep Secrets: Tonight, Thursday, May 26, 10:00 p.m. Court TV is running a program on the true story behind the film Open Water. Don't know anything about it other than their description: "A young Louisiana couple plans a vacation to dive the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. When the tour boat returns from the diving trip, the crew realizes that the couple didn't come back and may still be in the shark-infested waters. Bizarre clues question whether they were really left at sea or could there be another reason for their disappearance?"

I was bartending with Eileen Lonergan's sister, Anne, at the time of the incident. She told us that they had been in the peace corp, and were either finished or getting close to finished. She said that her sister kept journals, and there was nothing in them that indicated suicide. She said the dive gear was not damaged, and that was why there was some suspicion, even in the family, that they had planned it. Anne even half expected to hear from Eileen for a few days after. From what she told me, dive crew miscounted, never noticed anyone was missing until days later. Last time I talked to her (years ago, mind you) the family no longer felt it was a mysterious disappearance requiring further investigation. A dreadful error on the part of the dive crew.

And, the movie was truly awful. I was rooting for the sharks to go ahead and finish them so I could go to bed. A lot of folks in the media reported that it was really a thriller, quite scary. How odd that they would be wrong!
