I have family (two adults and two 17yr olds) coming to visit
from the mainland next Spring.

They are planning to get certified by doing the classroom
and pool work portion in Colorado before they arrive
and do the open water dives in kona.

Can anyone suggest dive shop or training operation
in kailua-kona that will help set this up?

Thanks!

There are a bunch of good operators who can probably finish your family off on the certifications. Some may be limited depending on which agency your family trains through - everyone out here can take PADI referrals, SSI is somewhat more limited here and quite popular in Colorado, so you'd need to inquire.

Here's some places to check with... Jack's Diving Locker, Big Island Divers, Kona Honu Divers, Sandwich Island Divers, myself (Wanna Dive) to name a few. I suspect we all run fairly similar referrals, but you'd have to check websites or inquire by phone to get specifics.

Referral courses are really the way to go in my opinion, you are doing the right thing by doing the classroom and pool there and the diving here, it'll be a great experience.

Have fun!
