Some things just never change..;)

Anyways we're having a great time. Dove "The Rock" this morning and it was terrific..
OK to answer some questions..
On my alterior (sic) motives. I have no "hidden agenda" unlike others on this board. I clearly state my financial involvement with the beautiful island on every posting I make.

**PF** you raise the meaning of the word "cynicism" to new levels.
1. I showed no form of ID. I even offered him my business card on several occasions and he refused to take it saying "don't worry I trust you".
2. Yes I did mention I owned a condo on the island however didn't say where.
3. See my car and get the license plate number? C'mon are you really serious with this. Dam he didn't even have a pencil to write it down!
And even if he did,so what? My point was, if you owned a store would you let someone walk away with over $500 of YOUR merchandise and rely upon information from a license plate? PF..I'm sure you may be a nice person, but your logic and approach to Bonaire is really twisted. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
4. For the last question "how difficult to get off the island without paying".
Answer..the easiest thing in the world. What do you think the security guards at the airport would stop me with machine guns pointed at me?

At any rate, dinner this evening at Capriccio's for authentic Italian cuisine!
Cheers to all SB readers.:D

When J broke her ankle, we rented a wheelchair to make it easier for her to get around spacious Capt. Don's and in town than on crutches. Nos Arkon, the local medical supply store, happily rented us one, and our pickup proved perfect for hauling it around town. The price was very decent as she offered me the local rate instead of the tourist rate (she felt sorry for us), and she charged a deposit to my credit card that would be refundable upon returning the chair.

Problem was, we had to be at the airport predawn on Sunday to catch the Continental flight, and they were closing for the weekend and would therefore be needing the wheelchair back on Friday afternoon before they closed, leaving her crutchbound all Friday night, Saturday, and around the airport on Sunday. So I came back to the shop on Friday afternoon to return the chair and they refunded my deposit. The "only on Bonaire" part is that they let me keep the chair until Sunday and they called over to the airport to someone they knew to arrange for me to drop off the chair there. On Sunday morning, that person couldn't be found, so I finally left the chair with a note in broken Papamiento/Spanglish explaining that it belonged to Nos Orkon and that someone would be in later to pick it up. I can only assume it made it back to the owners. No one would have paid us any heed if we had folded it up and brought it on the plane.

Lasagna to die for. We split an order as an appetizer last time, and I remember our entrees were good, but can't remember much past that lasagna.

:rofl3::rofl3: Enough said.

I think what you aren't aware of is when a poster has a dog in the fight or in other words has alterier motivations beyond what they appear, that there is more going on then meets the eye with the original post AND the replies to it.
Of course they do. But as stated already... dog in fight... alterior motives...

Kind of like a dive operator posting good reviews of his establishment on the internet. :eyebrow:

Not really, manipulation yes, but nothing to do with the store owner, as already stated.

If you don't drink the Bonaire Cool Aid you can see glimps little piece of the truth though the mist.

*SNIP*
Now I ask a simple question..Where or where in the US can an unidentified person walk in, remove over $500 in merchandise and simply walk away on the word of an unidentified stranger???

Hampton Virginia....I took a boatload of Boy Scouts fishing, ran in to a marina to fuel, pumped a couple of hundred dollars of fuel, told the kids to get what ever snacks they wanted..total bill better than 500 dollars, could not find my wallet, proprietor came out and said "Stop by on the next few days and we will catch up"

EDIT Forgot to mention the place is called Sunset Marine

Was on the island of Anguilla, it was Easter Sunday so all the rental car agencies were closed. At the little beach bar we were at the bartender found out about our perdicament and offered to rent us his personal car for $20.00. Thought that was great, then realized we would be leaving the island via boat at midnight and wouldn't be able to return the car to him.

No problem, he told us to just leave it at the dock, just leave the keys in it. When I asked him if I was supposed to lock it, he looked at me dumb founded, then said, no mon... if you lock the keys in it I won't be able to get them out since that's the only keys I have.

On the island of Nevis, we passed a pick up truck on a back country road, in the rear view mirror I notice immediately after they passed us they screached to a halt and appeared to be turning around. We went around a turn and lost sight of them. A few minutes later they came tearing after us. We were in the middle of the back country jungle no tourists come back there and we had a pick up truck full of big local men chasing us. They pulled along side and were waving us over. I was nervous of course, then I notice one of them had what appeared to be a license plate in his hands and was waving and pointing at the front of our car. After we pulled over he politely came up to the window and handed the license plate to my wife, said they saw it fall off the car as they were approaching us.

Only in Nevis and Anguilla? Nice folks are everywhere it seems.

Yep, nice folks everywhere. And rude folks and cynical folks and people who find the internet an excellent way to jerk other folks around. A long time ago I was told "People usually live up or down according to your expectations of them." While sometimes difficult, I do try to expect the best from folks and dang, it works more often than not so I'll stick with that approach.

Notice I didn't call anyone rude or cynical, it's just an observation on humanity, a group most of us belong to. I know I have been guilty of acting "poorly" (shakes head at understatement :eyebrow: ) at times (gulp, even on SB--but I usually slip it under the radar). Jeez, does it ever sting though when someone turns it around by amping up their expectation of me.

Small world, short lives and way too much good diving out there. Bonaire is home to a lot of awfully great folks...or maybe I just expect them to be? // ww

You have to ask yourself, is the OP fairly discribing Bonaire, are they helping divers new to the island with a fair and balanced view of how things really are on Bonaire? Is this cute story meant to discribe an actual event, or an attempt to alter reality? Important question, is it a disservice to make it appear that Bonaire is wholesome, safe and crime free like no other place in the dive world?

I'm sure the OP is a nice man but the fact that he owns a condo on Bonaire that he rents out might motivate his Bonaire view. Are things REALLY that way, or is that the way the OP would like it to be?

What do you think the security guards at the airport would stop me with machine guns pointed at me?

No, all he'd have to do is call the airport late the next day [ if you did not show up to pay ] to get immigration/police to put a hold on your passport, clearing you from leaving the small sland till you paid your bill. But, hey, I think he knew that. :)

Holy **** you two cannot let a thread go uninterrupted can you?

Oh and by the way......it is an ulterior motive, not alterior. Just wanting to help.
