Point 1: I was refering to if you were off the end of the table limit. ...//...
I'm on shaky ground answering as this is "New Divers..." but going back to post #16, those dives are all off the tables. Those dives are calculated based on using all my gas in double 100's. Yes, deco. get a copy of the NOAA diving manual -but if things go really bad they give me a way back. No reason you can't do the same for a single 80.
Off my tables is purely academic, somebody has nothing to breathe. That is the whole point and no reason why similar calcs can't be on your arm for an 80...

Short and sweet: Cut your own personal tables (using your RMV/SAC) for various depths. Calculate the tables to give you max bottom time and just enough gas to surface with all obligations met. You now have a list of "Terminal Dives".
Thus, you can always look at your slate and judge "where you are now" with respect to the absolute end. I find this information comforting and refer to it frequently.
Once you find that this procedure is becoming routine, start figuring in a reserve for your buddy...
