Hello,
I was told by a local dive shop that a one-pice suit, with attached hood, will be warmer than a two piece Farmer John. Is this really true? Especially for California diving? Thanks.

A good fitting 1 pc will be pretty warm. Although a 2pc has more insulation around your torso, it also has more places for water to get in and out. They market it this for flexibility and I know I bought into it. The reality is who ever dives just their farmer john like you see in the slick advertisements?

In hinesite if its warm enough for just your shorty, you probably would be better off with a thinner 1pc. If its cold enough for both pieces your probably would be better off with a thicker 1pc.

I'm not sure I would do an attached hood though.

I used the farmer john portion of my 2-piece 7mm several times for diving the local river - usual water temps are between 60 and 70. I sold the whole suit and used the money to fund a drysuit, but I think I'm going to have to find another wetsuit (maybe a 3mm full) for the nice warm water stuff.

Yes is can definitely be True that (for some people) a good fitting jumpsuit with hooded vest CAN be warmer than a good fitting two piece (FJ&JKT) style of wetsuit with standard hood.

I wear a jumpsuit with hooded vest up here in NE for the summer, and I am toasty warm in 50-55 degree water. ANything under 50, and I'm in my drysuit...

I really dont like two piece wetsuits all that much, even though I own one, and use it sparingly...

I would say go with the jumpsuit and hooded vest.
