It appears that you believe the Marine Park authorities which regulate diving in Cozumel are inept and can't manage their own affairs. Apparently, they are too stupid to understand that Devil's Throat is a cave and should not be entered except by cave divers. And all the dive shops are just money-grubbing enterprises only interested in increasing their wealth and operate without a thought to the safety of the divers who charter their boats.

You feel this need to control other people to the extent that you feel compelled to bolt signs to the coral reef of Punta Sur in violation of their marine park rules? And that's because they are not competent to manage their own affairs?

It's very hard to take you guys seriously at times.

While I"m admittedly a bit blurry on the details... as recollection serves me, I don't recall leaving the "cavern zone" passing through Devil's Throat, but it did have very cave-like characteristics to it.

Not for your resort OW diver, IMHO, but a fun dive nonetheless. I recall the dive op we were with waiting until almost the last day to take us there to evaluate whether they would take the group there or not. Either all on the boat were capable (in their eyes), or none of us went. I think that was very sound (and competent) on their part.

…..Cave diving programs and trimix programs are not part of the PADI Money Making Machine …….. They are meant to teach you how to dive in an environment without killing yourself.

PADI has become very involved with Technical Diving. Besides the TecRec Deep Diver (165 ft) they have the DSAT Trimix program. I understand they are adding Advanced Wreck diving with deco procedures, and cave diving as well (they already have cavern diving).

I haven’t trained with a lot of agencies, but I know people who teach PADI, EANTD, & TDI who say that PADI has put together a good program that encompasses all of the same materials, and filled in a lot of holes. I believe they are a competent tech training agency.

As far as money making, I think all agencies try to make money at it. PADI is just better at it.

There is a clear line and definition as to what is considered technical diving and what is recreational (note: I didn’t draw it) ;)

(according to) DSAT/PADI

“Recreational Scuba Diving is defined as no stop diving with air or enriched air to a maximum depth of 130 feet, and during penetration dives, within the natural light zone and no more than a total of 130 feet from the surface.”

“Technical Scuba Diving is diving other than conventional commercial or research diving that takes divers beyond recreational diving limits. It is further defined as and includes one or more of the following: diving beyond 130 feet, required stage decompression, diving in an overhead environment beyond 130 feet from the surface, accelerated decompression, and/or the use of variable gas mixtures during the dive.”

And my personal favorite (and point):

They also go on to say: ….”simply exceeding recreational limits is not tec diving” …(without proper training and equipment)…..”the only thing you can call it is stupid”.

Again.....just quoting it. :D

Well... Heck... if PADI/DSAT defines it, then why are we talking... discussion over boyz! :D

First…..it was the only definition offered in the many pages of posts, which contained a lot of opinions on what tec diving was….. I am open to any other definitions as to what tech diving and recreational diving is (as defined by professional agencies)??.........??.........??

Second…..the point…(hence the wording…”point”) was “exceeding recreational limits without proper gear and training…is stupid” (again this was a quote). (Which the majority here seems to agree on).

Perhaps, then, we should move to the next definition, and that being the meaning of certain smilies when used with one's post. :D

...ya might want to stop starching your shorts... they seem to be chaffing a bit!
:joke: (this smiley means... "just kidding") :D
