Huge numbers of olympic sports are not really competitive sports. They are simply judgment calls based on artistic merit (albeit artistic merit which is closely tied to physical endeavour, which scuba diving is not).

I can see/hear it now.

"Well, George, the American diver went a bit out of trim there when he vented his drysuit on the first ascent."

"Right, Jarrod. That'll surely cost him points with judges and his entire dive team is at risk of not medaling in the DIR team finals."

Name one, as I have no idea what you mean.

Well, they have competitive yoga, which is probably the weirdest combination of words you can think of.

What who can stand on one foot the longest? I've never heard of competitive yoga but it sounds ridiculous.

My favorite is the scuba cheerleaders. You have to work really hard to do cheers through a regulator, but then the pyramid is much easier.

That reminds me of a dive buddy a few years ago. I look back and she has a clump of rock weed in each hand and she's doing the rah rah rah thing at 20 feet.

ANYTHING can be made competitive. When I was a kid we could compete all the time to see who could find a certain rock thrown into the water while we were looking the other way. Also, a lot of things become big hits as spectator sports that I wouldn't want to watch for 30 seconds(Golf? Race walking? Synchronized swimming and now synchronized diving? That dumb floor exercise thing with streamers and crap as props), so you (or me or any other single individual) wanting to watch or not really is not definitive.

I was half joking about search and rescue but, if done right, it could easily be made into a competitive sport.

The best competion sport related to diving is not scuba; it is free diving.

Off or on scuba, spearfishing at targets could work.

On scuba, long distance racing (you only get one tank!) could be done, and probably biathlon could be interesting if you wanted to add in a speargun.

Targetshooting with spearguns is already being done..

What about deep air diving with problem solving obstacles. Time penalties can be used to add to the fun :rofl3:

They can also use the footage in Comedy Central.

Olympic Scuba Diving.... hummmmm...... make a 3 tank dive...... motor back to the resort..........eat too much..... indulge in drinking........do it again the next day.
I may not care to watch it.......but Ill be a competitor :)

Underwater olympic torch relay would be awesome. Just get a sealed container around the flame, get a secondary hose from your nitrox tank and an exhaust valve to purge the excess air etc. Would look cool! :cool2:

Still have to figure out how you would pass the flame underwater though!
