I just remembered  ... I DID upgrade PHP and MYSQL recently on the DB server (last 3-4 weeks?). I'm looking into possible causes/solutions.

Any word on this? It is still happening and some posts are rather tough to decipher :rofl3:.

I've noticed last night that when I type the degree symbol on SB with my Macbook, I'm getting something similar. When I type Option-Shift-8 (actually Option-*) it is showing up as a capital z with an accent mark on top followed by the degree character: Ž°. It used to work but now is doing something strange. Did either your PHP or MySQL upgrade have any "improvements" to unicode character support?

:bump:

I REALLY REALLY hope this gets resolved soon.

Agree 100% Steve. I tried to add the "cents" character (as in "my two cents") last night but got a goofy extra character for my trouble.

Is there any progress fixing this madness? ItÃÔ really annoying to have to reedit errors I didnÃÕ generate. ItÃÔ not just the contractions but with capitalizations and paragraph spaces, on and on. A bit hard to never use any of these.
Yes I can just write in the blank, however I prefer and function far better in Word for a number of reasons.
And had no problems for the years I've been here until now, this just happened over night, I posted one day fine, next day weirdness and I am not alone.
These are just recent and happen to be on my screen.

What was that I said .... I did not bold this, it was not bold on my screen.

to go squeegee off the flooded lanaiÃÔ. This is not a contraction but the multiple lanai, common english.
I canÃÕ fault That is a contraction

requesting ÀûSPAN style="COLOR: black">help us understand what happened? How did requesting 'help us understand what happened'. turn into that question?
...to consumer dissatisfaction.</SPAN> What the heck is this?
the fish©Õo much for smart quotes makes ..the fish to much... into that?

Sorry, no solution yet.

I?m curious. I posted this as a new thread as it was appearing no one was paying any attention to the original one. Did it get moved?
I have to say there are other wierdiosities happening like I?ve posted and they apparently have gone off into the ether, at least they are not in the thread I posted to. (Among other new oddities.)
And that is one big reason I am in Word, I?ve spent a lot of time (sometimes J) on a post and I may not be finished ? this was a hypen there is no save a draft. I saw LOL someone asking about that recommended to write in Word J. And is really annoying to have spent a matter of days working out what I want to say, editing and editing, then it is gone and not retrievable. Certainly does not make me inclined to not use Word and have a copy for all that work if the board is going to flush it down the comode.

Thanks John.
That's cool.
The apostrophe above should confirm that it worked. In case others are looking to fix it, the following sequence worked in my version of Word:

Tools / Autocorrect Options / Autoformat As You Type / Replace as you type / "Straight quotes with smart quotes"

Now we have a lead toward how to fix the characters in posts that include non-English accent marks, etc.
This is not appearing to have any effect except change some way to look wierd.

What was that I said

the flooded lanaiÃÔ. Now it is

Very nice to see Atomic is reading, catching the complaint and requesting ÀûSPAN style="COLOR: black">help us understand what happened?

ItÃÔ not just the

If it helps redrover, I have been having the same issues. Some of my posts just disappear and obviously I am having the same font issues. It is very annoying but I am putting all confidence in El that he will get it fixed quickly.

LOL I hope so, over two months now. I put all the wierdies in just incase they were clues for those that speak IT. My IT guy at work does wonders with screen shot clues.
