I'm a Fish!
Saturday morning, ODA divers Greg Cooke, Jeff Connor, Capt. Kurt Lieber and me made a couple of recon dives on the Georgia Straights wreck/reef just outside Angels Gate Los Angeles. After notifying LA Port Authority and following reports by Ross O, we wanted to asses the nature of the nets and lines disturbing this fun site, we were allowed 4 Hours. Well this beautiful little reef today had a fair amount of different netting materials on it. Much of the site (85%?) is very clean and abundant with huge Metridiums, Gorgonians, Sunstars, fish’s, Etc., pristine, cold and beautiful. But this colorful scene is in stark contrast to large sections smothered in the stranglehold of killer fishnets. We’ll be out next week to see if we can strip and clean the reef and habitat of this dangerous and deadly murder mesh ;-<
Thanks to Ross O for the heads~up reporting and GOOD numbers! Thanks to the “Clearwater” Crew Jim Lieber and Greg Hager. Vizz was 20’feet+ before cutting work begins ;~), and a brisk mid Summer Temp of 54* degrees at the working depth of 85’ feet.
