About a month ago I was Solo diving off the beach in Laguna Beach when my trusty dive computer started to malfunction. It was not a major malfunction, but the lcd for depth reading became unreadable so I aborted the dive with no fanfare. I figured the computer, a DataMax Pro, was no longer under warranty and it was time to buy a new computer. I carry dive gear insurance and was instructed to take it to the dive shop and get a repair order and that it would be covered under my insurance. The shop told me it would take over a month to get back so I went ahead and bought the Suunto Cobra and let the dive shop send in the broken computer. To my amazement Oceanic replaced, rather than repaired my old computer with a brand new one. There was no cost to me and I now have 2 dive computers. I will be selling the Oceanic as I really like the Suunto, but just thought I would share my experience. The Oceanic was over 8 years old and did not carry any special warranty etc. I can only hope that the Cobra will hold up as well. PS for anyone that wants to buy a DataMax Pro its on ebay.

Thank you for your information on the Oceanic Warranty. Your comments combined with a few others led me to purchase the Oceanic DMPP this week. I can hardly wait until it arrives.

Their will always be something in the back of my mind that makes me wander if I should have bought a Cobra.

Thanks again!

I had a Data Plus quit a couple years ago - it also was well out of warranty, about five years old - one of their original nitrox computers. Sent it in for repair, expecting a bill with it. Instead I got a new one and no charge. Needless to say, I'm an even bigger fan of Oceanic than I was before.

I have had the same experience with Oceanic, I had a Data 100 flood on me well after the warranty was up, it was replaced within 1 week at no cost and no questions asked....I own 2 now.
