One other question... I have a bright yellow TX40 Octopus that is still stuck on my old TX100 yoke first stage... bought an ATX50 as secondary backup for doubles. Could use the TX40 but I find it very uncomfortable. Hate the mouthpiece. TX100 and ATX50 I can breath for hours but TX40 doesn't bite right and feels front heavy. Do you happen to know if the TX100 mouth piece fits on the TX40? I was keeping the yoke/TX40 for recreational diving... now if my wife will let me steal her TX40 :D I'll be all set except for (2) DS4's and some feedback on cleaning :)

Personally, I prefer the DST's on the deco's/Stages, The swivel makes it pretty usable. Perhaps there is a weakness point, But Ive never seen any issues. I also wasnt by direct choise, they just kinda got relegated there........

Ask Heather to show you her Scubapro reg one day..........

Then get her to show you her left palm.

Really? I'll have to ask her about that!

I've never heard of anyone having a problem but she would certainly be a trusted "differing opinion" which might have me taking my regs for service....

If I had it to do again I would also get DSTs. The DS4s are great firsts but the hose sometimes gets in a weird kink that's hard to fix.

I'm not aware of a reg that comes with the recommenfdation that it be used with 100%.
Poseidon's Xstream Deco is not only engineered for O2 service, it's O2 clean from the factory and guaranteed that you can use as high as 99.95% oxygen.
Not really sure what the extra .05% difference would make. ;)

Here's a *.PDF document: http://www.poseidon.se/bild.dip?id=367
(don't freak out, the 2nd page is english)

is important... I would definitely get whatever regs you decide to use O2 cleaned before using with above 50% O2.

I personally like the Apeks regs...

However, if you want one that the manufacturer says is good for 99% O2:

Oceanic makes a reg (Alpha 7/ SP-4 unbalanced piston) they call the O2 tech reg, which is factory cleaned. Its not cheap. Apparently O2 cleaning by Oceanic costs alot. http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/Product.cfm?PL=Reg&SL=o2 tech

Aqualung also has one they will stand behind for 99% o2. (Calypso O2). also, unbalanced piston. http://www.aqualung.com/catalog/prodpage/regulate/calypso.htm#o2

and the Poseidon Xtreme deco is also rated for 99.95% O2. Diaphragm. http://www.poseidon.se/

also, OMS has one too: http://www.omsdive.com/regs.html (another unbalanced piston)

Good luck...

Always makes me laugh when you see a reg advertised as "Nitrox Ready" Factory cleaned for up to 40% O2.

Well, its a liability thing.

These manufacturers do testing on the reg and all components and parts to make sure they are O2 compatible. They only recently started to say that you can use their regs right out of the box with up to 40%.

All of the regs I mentioned are rated for 99% O2 or better according to manufacturer.

The reason it's funny, is that below 40% you don't really have to worry about O2 cleaning. So "ready up to 40%" means absolutely nothing. Well, ok, it means you'll spend more money, so I guess it does mean something.

What's interesting is above 40%. For that, your best bet is to look at what's been used most widely. I would say that the reg I see most often for 100% O2 bottles is either an Apeks or a Scubapro. I'm sure this has something to do with the fact that George Irvine uses these regs, but also with the fact that they are just damn good regulators.

As a previous poster mentioned, stay away from titanium, such as the Atomix (I forget the model number, T1 or T2).

a manufacturer just cant say that you dont have to do anything to our regs before you use them with <40% O2.

They have to test and evaluate every reg they have before they can say that.

The fact is, nothing was done to most regs. On Apeks regs, the only thing they changed was the filter to make it compatible. And as far as paying more, I dont think so... If you buy a reg that is for nitrox only, then yeah. Fact remains that most companies out there are now saying that you can use ANY of their regulators (not just the NITROX version) out of the box with <40% O2.

That certainly explains all the explosions I keep hearing about because of people using "air" regulators with nitrox. ;-)
