I agree, even if just entering from a boat launch, you're too close to boats until you get out aways. Dangerous area. If we could just have more designated areas setup and roped off, like the one at Squantz pond that would be a big step.

I just went up to west hill and they have a sign posting that if you have a c card you can dive at your own risk. No snorkeling though. I did get the phone # for the Water Front director and gave him a call. No one was in the office so I will call tomorrow and see what's up. I don't think that I would want to sneak in if I could just get a day pass to use the park. I will post when I find out. I agree with gfisher4792, check out the quarry, not too far a ride, great diving and great people.

CTMax - thanks for the intel work! Defintely let me know if you hear that we can enter via the shore (and where) legit-like. I'm looking forward to the Portland Quarry as that will be close as well for us, but that looks as if it will be spring before its operational.

I *think* we actually know the camp director of the scout camp there as well, gonna see if I can get any info from him before this weekend as well.

All this input is great, much thanks all. Problem I have is basically sunday is it that I have free (unless I try an afternoon/evening) this season. We have plans booked for this fri, sat, then the next 3 weekends, then we are into November, and I think I will be hard pressed to get the wife in the waters up here then!

Come to the quarry, you are almost guaranteed to meet some great new divers, and the diving and vis can be mild to wild, as you choose. I have a ball every time I go, and the folks are great. give it a shot! It should be open all weekend till 4:00

Dave, what qualifies as 'wild' vis?

Are you speaking of Dutch Springs in PA, or the Portland Quarry here in CT? Dutch Springs is a bit too much for a day trip for me. And if its portland, I thought that wasnt really 'open' yet.

I have been looking at Mount Tom State Park as well, they actually even list scuba on the parks web page, so that makes me feel pretty confident  . Still think I might just hit Westhills and see if I get in trouble sunday!

He means Portland. It's been open during select weekends (do a search in this forum for 'Brownstone'), and will officially open full time next year. PM Frank Hayes for exact times and dates.

If you find that it's possible to get in through the scout camp let us know. There are several members here who would love to drop in there. There are some nice coves over in that corner that I would love to explore. The Portland quarry is actually where I did my first New England dive after being certified. Nice safe spot to start. Keep us posted and let us know how you make out. I may be in the area with a Kayak on Sunday if I don't have a chance to get wet.

Ken,
I hear Dave is bagging us to go hang with the "A" divers this weekend and dive the 853, dbg40 and JIMJAM, what a pair.. One to scare all of the lobsters out of the hole and one to scare them right back in...... I am not going to say which is which........ :05:
