Boat Dock in Brodie Park? Did one of you have a pass? Was it off Season? The park employees usually monitor passes fairly closely. I am trying to see if we can use the lower lot off season with out causing a problem.

I can't remember which area we were at, but I think it was off of Niles Road. According to my logbook, we dove on July 31 last year, no passes. It was the entrance where you pass the porto potties on the right, then the public beach on your right, then onto the parking lot. On the left side of the lot (I think they had stacked canoes) is a path (100 feet) down to a canoe dock. Dan and I arrived first, and we were setting up near the public beach, and the lifeguards came over and said that we could dive off the canoe dock. No fuss, good dives.

Thanks Neil, that's what I thought. I think I'll have to try and see.

You can rent a rowboat for West Hill Pond at a place called Ponds. Its on the south end of the lake. I usually snorkel out of my canoe. I live 5 mins from there and have snorkeled the north shore 4 or 5 times since labor day. The water is exellent. Great vis. How would Portland Quarry be for snorkeling? And can you be there now?

Well, my wife and I actually got into West Hills Lake today. Water temp was great (68), and vis was 15'+ for the most part, all in all great. She knows one of the guys at the boy scout camp, and we were considering taking off from there, but we checked the beach at Brodie Park as well. Was dead quiet when we got there, so we decided to enter from there. The signs say 'beach pass required' for parking, butwe couldnt for the life of us figure out how one was to aquire that... so we just took our chances. (Didnt get towed or a ticket, so guess we did good).

When we exited the water, people were actually around the beach - a couple sunbathing, lots of kayakers (we gave 2 women a fright coming up out of the water there - altho how, since we came up straight at our dive flag, Im not sure, but they were laughing).

All in all, nice place, for being a short ride! Anyone who knows how to obtain a beach pass or whatever (or is that just an on season thing) - lemme know? Thanks!

That's what my wife and I are trying to do. We are only 5 min away and would love to either launch our kayaks there or dive without having to worry that the truck would be gone when we surface. If you looked at the bottom of the sign where you noticed that a pass was needed, there is a # on the bottom for the Waterfront director. We haven't been able to get him. Several calls to the town have been made with no response other than how much it will cost for a season. The sign also mentions a day pass, I think that's what they called it, that's what we are more interested in. When I find out I will let you know.

I think you need to go through the Town and be a resident.

Also, when it's "off-season" like right now, hopefully the restrictions on non-resident parking at Brodie Park and the prohibition of scuba there will not be enforced.

So you think it might be a town only park? I was guessing Brodie was a state park. They actually say on the sign scuba is allowed tho, so there isnt a prohibition of it, so thats good!

Definitely a Town Park. No Question. There is a state boat launch at the other end.
