Well we're in Coz now and loving every minute. Dove the north reefs (Barracuda and San Juan) yesterday and saw many eagle rays. I was told the current wasn't that bad yesterday, but I've never dove the north reefs so I have no point of reference. I can tell you, however, that in comparison, Columbia Deep this morning, felt like there was no current what so ever. Saw my first non-nurse shark shark - a small grey reef shark.

So lots of eagles are in early this year...can't wait to see some...they are my favorite. Are you seeing them on any of the south reefs?

Thanks Kat-you just made my day. Can't wait to see some, we missed them last year when we went in December.

I just got back Sunday and we were lucky enough to see lots and lots of eagle rays, too! (I didn't even think it was eagle ray 'season') In fact, we saw them on every dive but one! On the last day we got two extra special treats - on our 1st dive of the morning our DM found a tiny sargassum frogfish in the floating in the weeds during the safety stop! And if that wasn't cool enough, on the second dive as I was finishing my safety stop I had spotted the boat and was heading slowly towards it while the rest of the group was a little behind me watching a stingray feeding in the sand. I glanced down at the reef (San Francisco)and could not believe my eyes. A large ray was on top of the reef (about 30 feet) just slowly cruising around. I could not resist, and I slowly moved down to about 7 or 8ft. above him. He could have cared less, which shocked me. The rest of the group spotted him then, and luckily they stayed put and he swam towards them then cirled back under me again. After a couple minutes, he headed back out into the blue and swam away. It was an absolute thrill to be that close to one! I felt truly blessed. (and yes, i did another safety stop just to be safe...) And Kat, thanks for your picture. Of course, I didn't bring my camera on this trip!
