Hi, I'm also a reformed non diving wife, I now have50 + dives and ready to go on a live a board. I was a Coestou fan for years, but I live in Ohio. When my husband got certified along with his brother and sister in law, I would go with them on the boat to take pictures. I'd lay in the sun till they got back. THen the torment would start. They would come back so excited about what they saw. After 3 vacations of this I decided to do a discover scuba class. (I'm also deathly afraid of water and what is in it) I was excited to have a new world open up by being able to breath and see everything in the pool.

It took some extra time in the pool. I took the OW class two times, first a five week on Sundays, then a 10 week at the local college taught by the same instructors. The first class I was the one that everyone would look at and wonder what I was doing because I wasn't comfortable. to much to take on, new equipment and a new enviroment. The second class, I had become comfortable with my equipment and actually had some fun. We went on vacation, my husband was so happy, by the way, he never pushed or critisized, he was very patient. I came back from vaca and took the AOW, NOt for the purpose of obtaining a higher cert, but for a better understanding of the underwater surroundings, navigation, and continued work with my equipment. I just finished my Nitrox class. My comfort level is tested everytime I get into the water. I have to assure myself, know my equipment, breath and I've have found a peacefullness in diving and hearing my own bubbles. Good luck!

I had a friend who did exactly the same as you cindye, she turned out to be a bit of a fish having resisted the whole diving thing for years, babysitting the kids while her boyfriend spent his weekends underwater.

The only issue now, is who looks after the kids???!

More call for centres with childcare I feel?
