Example of "Talking the Talk" when you do not have a clue as to how the train is driven??????? NERAS I can tell, I think you have it right Geoff.......

I expect all the DIRs will eventually chime in together in this fashion, like a girls cheerleading squad in high school. This is in fact called cheerleading for your side. It never impressed me much in high school, but then I was busy down on the field playing right side linebacker. But go ahead, cheerlead all you want.:eyebrow:

I'm more of a DIMW diver (that's DO IT MY WAY). Still diving after all these years and lovin it !!

To be or not to be (Shakespeare) ? :D

I wouldn't wanna be Shakespeare ... he's dead ... :eyebrow:

Why can't we all just talk about how we dive without the need to put down how other people dive? Seems to work much better in real life than it does on the Internet ...

Amen!

I would like to point out that some of us who would like to question if some of the current(as they have changed in the past and I suspect will continue to change) DIR tenets represent best practice or not, want nereas as our spokesperson as much as the DIR crowd would like some of their more colorful practictioners as their's.

First off, why do you even CARE what the DIR tenets are? If you reject them anyway, what's to question? They're all pretty well explained ... it's up to you to decide whether or not you accept the explanation. And if you don't, explaining it again (ad nauseum) is just a waste of time.

As to having a "spokesperson" ... why do you need one? Aren't you capable of elucidating yor own thoughts? And if you do decide to choose a spokesperson, wouldn't it be helpful to choose one who is capable of more than outlandish statements and insults without any real knowledge of what he's criticizing? If you're gonna put something down, you should at least be capable of explaining why. That's never happened with nereas ... all he can do is toss insults and braggadacio out there without any real substance. This is the tech divers forum ... tech divers should be able to explain why they do what they do, and why they choose not to do it some other way.

When you solo dive, do you use doubles, bring a pony bottle, spare air or do consider your redundant gas to be at 1ATA?

:blinking:

cause it is fun to discuss! And that is why people keep coming back to this whole debate.

I guess that depends on what your definition of "fun" happens to be. Insults and chest-thumping don't really add much to a discussion, to my concern.

Threads that turn into train-wrecks provide cheap entertainment for some ... but for people who come here for information ... or to have an actual adult-level discussion ... they just discourage participation.

That's why so many people who used to contribute actual diving information to these forums have gone elsewhere ...

And the reason we had to create a subforum with new moderators to close the trash talk. Shouldn't have been necessary, but it was due to the immaturity and frequent trainwrecks by those who think that DIR = mindlessly following what GI3 said a decade ago.
