Often the duck wannabes are the ones that quack like a duck!
They are often not all that they are quacked up to be. :D Don't worry, I won't bill you for the humor! :D :D :D

I am glad folks are even taking the time to check out the poll.....always interesting to see what turns up.

Come on, with a title like that you knew the usual suspects would be all over this like flies on horse doodoo.... and I include myself in that obviously :)

Maybe so....I think we drew some new faces in to vote.

Its funny.....I have in all my dives never had a diver refuse to dive with me because of different diving philosophies or gear configuration differences, or for any reason. I have dove with DIR divers and nothing bad happened....dives seemed to go as planned.

Were you part of their team?

We were all part of a team.....just because a diver is DIR or not does not make it impossible to conduct safe dives diving together.

He's saying that if it looks like a duck (DIR) and walks like a duck (DIR), it's probably a duck (DIR) ...

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

That is a different poll altogether.

I prefer the term Unified Team Diver (UTD) because it doesn't have the same tendency to create hurt feelings, but since that wasn't one of the choices I picked DIR.

As to the statistical significance question, any opt-in poll has -- by definition -- a suspect population sample, correct? That still makes the poll interesting, it just means the results are not statistically valid. IOW, right now the voting is 30-30-19, but there are 1001 page views. Going out on a WAG and assuming 250 of those page views are unique (and the other 3/4 are from people reading replies to their posts), you'd have 171 "No Opinion" answers going unrecorded with no way to determine exactly what that count is. Add the fact that people with strong feelings for or against are more likely to respond, and it makes it hard to infer anything from the results.

I think how people choose to represent themselves reveals a lot about them.

That is what I look like when I dive on Saturdays. I look different when I dive on Sundays (split fins, snorkel, jacket bc).

Stroke! :-)

The choice of photo that anyone puts up on SB (or elsewhere) says a lot about them. I'm not saying it provides a complete encyclopedia of their diving, knowledge and life history. But it can and will show a heap of things :)
