My son, his friend Tommy and I did a couple of dives on the Regina and the Sport today and there wasn't any thermocline (64 degress all the way to the bottom). Vis was around 25-30 ft. Water was warmer than the air ( at least in the morning).

Hey CMAN! I am not familiar with the Regina or the Sport. Were abouts can you dive these wrecks? Can you tell me more about this dive spot?

DOES the water ge warmer than 64 degrees?

Thanks!

The Regina is a 250 foot steel hull freighter that sank in the Great Storm of 1913. She lies about 6 miles northeast of Lexington in about 80 feet of water. She sits up-side down while leaning on her starboard side. There are lots of interesting things to see there (old bottles, cans, etc.) and makes for a great dive (I have dove it 20-30 times and still don't get bored). The Sport is a 56 foot composite (both steel and wood) tug that sank in 1920. She lies about 3 miles east of Lexington in about 50 feet of water. She lies on her starboard side with the deck fully accessable. This dive is interesting the first few times with the prop broken off and laying just off the port stern and the boiler and engine are easy to see because some of the deck is missing. There use to be a shovel and pipewrech laying on the deck but I couldn't find them yesterday (I hope someone didn't take them as it is a felony to remove any artifacts from the Sanilac Shores Presserve).

I forgot to mention that you may want to pick up The Great Lakes Diving Guide by Chris Kohl. It is a great book with tons of info on lots of wrecks.

Hey CMAN!

I just picked up the book! HOLY SMOKES! IT is sweet! I have a book almost like it, for all the great dive spots down in Florida.

Thanks for the feedback!!

Wowee!! No thermocline?? That's craaazy!! Wish we had time to dive her before we move.

... your wish is granted - we'll dive her on the way back from the Price on the 18th!

I hate to throw cold water (pun intended) on your parade but if the winds shift especially from the east, the thermocline will return.

I don't think you are a party pooper at all.

Its out last dives on Lake Huron before we move to Tennessee so, it'll be amazing even if the thermocline is at 20 ft. :D
