I'm Jarred.
I'm not certified yet (certifiable maybe), but hope to be next month some time.
I live in north Florida, and (here come the stats) am a 24 yr old (way too) single guy. 5'11" with brown hair and blue eyes.
I love the outdoors and enjoy living in the woods.

Well on my way. I've got several friends who dive, and I go with them on dive trips (I snorkel).
Even went with a class last weekend for their checkout dives. I just free dove with them...and in many cases below them :)

Just wanted to start by saying what an interesting thread this is...lots of fun to read...
Me:
Im a 24 year old, single, male living in Sweden... :viking:
I have a BA in Marketing and another 1 in Systems development, spent almost a year in the army as a squad leader :getsome:, work as a procurer at a powerplant...you´d be amazed at the stuff i get to buy :D

I ´ve been diving for almost 3 years and would like to be a fareweather diver but living in Sweden that would pretty much mean not diving at all ...been to the canaryislands and the red sea...aow, drysuit and nitrox...will propably get a ice-diver 1 as well this winter as I´ve just bought a drysuit...

If there´s anything I left out, just let me know
(these different smilies are lots of fun BTW)

It just amazes me that there are so many personnal events that are shared on this site. Everything from I'm going to be a parent to my relationship is breaking up. We have all cried on each others shoulders and laughed together. Most of us feel like this is an extended family and want to share as much of our lives as possible. I am one of those and sometimes I should stay quiet but then that wouldn't be me. We come together because we have a common interest, DIVING, we remain together because for the most part we have become good friends. Thank you everyone.

And just to add to that a bit...

I am amazed that in a group this large, the diving community as a whole, it seems that most everyone you run into or chat with online is helpful and friendly. No other group I have been in or around has been that way. Most of the time in other groups, newbies are shunned or ridiculed but in SCUBAland they are welcomed wholeheartedly and encouraged! I have found a home!!!

Thanks all!

Great thread.

My name is James. I'm 39 years old. . 6'4 brown hair blue eyes. Divorced no kids (I'm sure there is an ancronym for that.) I live around Montgomery Alabama.

I have MS in Psychology and am a regional director for a Non-profit Org working with people with developmental disabilities. I also teach part time at a local college. (pays for gear and dive trips.)

I've been diving for about 1 1/2 yrs. I am obsessed with it. I Have completed several specialties and will complete Rescue diver next week. I plan to start the cave series with cavern course in the spring.

Rather than repeat myself too much, here's my introduction post.

Anyway, I'm a happily married (16yrs), 37 year old, 6'2" (188cm), 220# (100kg), PADI AOW diver with three kids. So far, I'm the only diver (started my OW classes in July'03), but my kids are itching to start and I'm considering surprising them with a Discover Scuba session at the LDS over Christmas break and might look to Jr.OW for the older two in time to do cert. dives in Ft.Lauderdale, FL over the Spring Break in April'04. (Haven't convinced my wife of that last part, yet :))

This board is really great and is helping tremendously with my plans (schemes?) to add more of my own gear before that vacation next spring.

(19 days since my last dive :( )

Saw this thread getting a little low on the page, so thought I'd bump it up :whip:

This is a really cool thread.

I am a 45 yo male diver with a non-diving spouse. My real name is Frederick Falk and I am married to the former Melinda Maxine Vaughn since July of 1982. I was born in Dallas, Texas and lived outside of Chicago, Illinois for 3 1/2 years and Anniston and Arab, Alabama for a combined 10 years.

I was certified in 1989 in Birmingham, Alabama and my daughter who is now 17 was certified when she was 12 at Aquarena Springs, Texas. We moved back to Austin, Texas in 1994 and I have been actively diving for the most part in Lake Travis. I have OW, AOW, Rescue, Solo, Nitrox, Night and Equipment Specialist. I am currently working on my DM.

I am a Senior Systems Analyst by trade and have worked as an Assistant Manager for a Dive Shop here in Austin. I was ordained a Deacon in September of 1984 at Greenbriar Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama. I was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in June of 1985.

I am currently the Technical Director of the Media Ministries for Travis Oaks Baptist Church and Sr. FOH Engineer as well as a Deacon. I am also a Sr. Firefighter, EMT-B, Rescue Swimmer and Rescue Diver for Travis County ESD#1 (Lago Vista). I am a member of the Austin Home Theater Association and an avid HT buff. I have Polk speakers (hence my moniker). I am also a Massage Therapist which gives my pocket money to spend on my hobbies.

I maintain 3 saltwater aquariums including a 135 gallon reef tank that is the center-piece of our home. I am an amateur Ichthyologist (studies the behaviour of fish). I also have a pond in the front yard. Two cats (Pixie and Tigger), one dog (Pepper) and one hampster round out the critters.

I dive a DIR setup but I will dive with non-DIR divers (I do NOT take the attitude that I am better than anyone else and I love to help people, especially novice divers). I am always on the look-out for divers in the Austin area. Feel free to PM me if you would like to get together sometime.
