I just got off the phone with the boss in Ireland (Endurotech Kevlar® Gloves) & he says that DuPont is yanking the advertising rights of folks that make goods out of Kevlar®.
We have 2 years to get in "compliance" because of existing stocks, but after that, our gloves/mitts can't have the Kevlar® logo on them.
Most other manufacturers have only 'till the end of June to remove the logo.
So if you're noticing that Kevlar® is disappearing, it's just the logo that's gone, not the material itself.
Now... what do we call the new drysuits that are being made out of the stuff?

how very strange... won't this negatively affect these peoples' business, and thus DuPont as the manufacturer? Does DuPont has exclusive manufacturing control over Kevlar?

Hey, they may be shooting themselves in the foot.

Isn't the patent running out soon?

If people know that aramid is the same thing as kevlar (TM) there will be less drive to buy from Dupont.

"Kevlar, Oh Kevlar, whyfore art thou KEVLAR? Woudst not a fiber called aramid still hold as strong?"

Sorry, flashbacks bad today. :D

FWIW, Kevlar is an Aramid but all arimid are not kevlar. Dupont is also expanding production. There are and have been several competitors out there but nobody quite matches Kevlar yet. But be on the look out for some other materials coming soon.
And no I don't work for Dupont... I am a vendor however ;-)

To dive, or not to dive: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The stings and barbs of outrageous sea-life,
Or to take KEVLAR against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?

When shall we three dive again
In Thunder Bay, Kingston, or in Maine?
When the copyright is done,
When the lawsuit's lost and won
That will be ere the set of sun.
Where the place?
Upon the beach.
There to dive with Macbeth.

(With profound apologies to the bard.)

Can they call them bullet proof? :overlord:

Or better yet, "Kelvar".
