So, what would be a good replacement for a MV Octopus if I wanted a matching second stage for my current Proton Metal in the current Mares lineup, or should I look for another Proton Metal/Abyss? I want to convert my current MR42/Proton Metal kit to long hose primary donate.

Not my listing but it fits exactly what you are looking for:

As Zed Zef pointed out, they still make the Abyss. Of course, it's larger and heavier than what you currently have. Since it's paired with an MR42, I guess you were interested in keeping things light and compact. But maybe you've given up on that idea since you are switching to a long hose?

If you want a matching metal Proton, you'll need to find a used one. It will probably come with a spare first stage :-) That's what I've done.

Really any Mares second stage will work. They are use the same IP specs. Do note that their octos are set up with a slightly higher cracking pressure to help avoid freeflows when entering the water. This might be annoying if you use it as a primary, but you can get it tuned out.

Not my listing, but here is a Proton Metal that seems to be in decent exterior condition attached to what appears to be a Mares MR16 1st stage:

From my understanding, the MR16 can still be serviced as it was internally the same as the MR32 which was an externally paired down version of the MR22 before Mares redesigned the exterior of the MR22 in 2008 by reducing the excessive amount of metal it was previously made from. There is a slight chance that the 1st stage is a V16 with the SCS type poppet valve, but that can be converted to the T-style poppet valve and brought up to date as a MR16 if desired.

Autocorrect makes some weird choices. But I think we know why it did this one.

Fabienne : Whose motorcycle is this?
Butch : It's a chopper, baby.
Fabienne : Whose chopper is this?
Butch : It's Zed's.
Fabienne : Who's Zed?

Oh, man, I will never forgive your arse for this sh!t. This is some f**ked-up repugnant sh!t.

Zed's dead Baby, Zed's dead.

I saw that listing - I’m tempted. But I do have a working MR42T, but who knows how long I can get parts for it.

Yea, the other idea is to feel more confortable with the MV as my backup in a primary donate situation. The Prestige wouldn’t be too much of an upgrade, but I can also pick up an Abyss and demote my Proton Metal as the secondary.

Looking for advice on identification of this regulator - suspected Mares. Maybe anyone on this thread will know what model is this?
Thanks

I don't think that's a Mares. It looks more like a ScubaPro Mk2 clone. What makes you suspect it is?
