I feel like MOB is a more securely stored position for a mask, than MOF, which is why I do it.

With that said I was out in the water with a ^*&%$#@ snorkel the other day and lifted my mask up to see and chat with our local coastal life guards. Since I had a snorkel I went MOF and chatted with them for a few minutes. You know what? They never jumped in the water and came to rescue me  Heck they didn't even ask me if I was okay? I guess MOF has passed into the realm of internet board lore.

One can only hope. When I certified back in '84, I never heard of such a debate, and most everyone you saw exiting the water had their mask pushed up on their forehead. In all my years of diving, I have never once seen anyone mistake that for a sign of distress. I have also never even come close to losing my mask with it on my forehead. When my son certified two years ago, I took the class with him, and the instructor stressed the no-mask-on-forehead thing quite a bit. We push our masks up on our foreheads when we're diving with him just to mess with him. :D

I am a fan of mask worn properly while in the water.

If something is dropped or someone has issues, you are more prepared to take immediate action wihtout fumbling for your mask.

When above water (especially with a class) its really tough to speak with your nose covered. And Mask on forehead means I'm dying come save me, or you owe everyone a drink if your caught doing it. Mask on arm = mask on bottom of the ocean, so where else can you put it and have easy access to it. Mask on backwards it is! You can't trademark how I wear my mask : )

What about MON (Mask on Neck)??

Very awkward with a bungeed reg. This may not apply to the training class but to many divers it applies.

It was the 'proper' way to wear the mask out of the water in my GUE Fundementals class.

:hm:

And my PADI OW class, if that means anything.

I haven't had much issue with that. I don't however have a long hose and bungeed octo, just the bungeed octo. Perhaps it's more difficult with both?

I'm astonished Halemano has not been here yet to defend his maskstrap.

My maskstrap is perfectly capable of defending itself! It is after all a Blue Shark. :eyebrow:

I consider this position to be Surface Swim Sunblock. :D

Is that an aquatic equivalent of three wolves howling at the moon?

My bad for not being clearer. Most people that have the bungeed reg are diving a long hose so the combination does make it very awkward IMO. However, I also believe just the bungeed reg and the mask on the neck are very awkward as well (leaving the long hose out of it) as I have tried it during pre-dive discussions. YMMV
