If you don't dive nitrox on a live aboard, then you are limiting yourself to only 2 or 3 dives a day. 4 max. (unless they are all very shallow dives).

With Nitrox, you can pretty much dive almost as much as you want (within safey limits) and you also won't be as tired either. it's the only way to go when you
are doing repetiive dives.

I highly recommend Nitrox BUT you can do 5 dives a day without it and they don't have to be shallow. You can do it on tables, or even better with a computer.
Nitrox will make it more enjoyable for all the reasons stated earlier.

:hmmm: Nope - just not true. If I can get Nitrox and enjoy the benefits, yay! But this is just not true.

I've done 5 in a day on a live aboard that did not offer Nitrox, as it's rare on California boats. Would have done a 6th, but I was too tired after supper. Slept good. But if you can get it, it's the berries. :cheering:

I agree that diving nitrox on a livaboard is the best way to go, but you CAN safely do 5 dives a day on air, particularly if you do multi-level dives and do longer surface intervals and longer safety stops.

Got Nitrox cert this year aboard the Turks & Caicos Explorer. I have since done two other liveaboards. One with Nitrox, 26 dives and one without, 27 dives (the compressor was down) . I found that it makes a world of difference in regards to bottom time. As has been stated, you can definetely make 5+ dives a day on air.

Although I haven't seen anything conclusive on this, I did find a BIG difference in my energy level, especially towards the end of the week.

Which boat will you be on? Many of them do the cert cheap and will discount their normal fill rate if you do the course with them.

Enjoy the trip, I just discovered liveaboards this year and love the experience (so much so that I have done three this year).

Well..... when I said that earlier I meant typically (based on depth ,etc..)
Of course you can do as many as the tables or your computer allow on air, but
nitrox will allow you more and also you won't be so tired afterwards.

SDI will put a Nitrox card in your wallet for C note and about 4hrs. no dive required. The advantages really shine on liveaboards.

If you want to get the best diving, in safety, you can dive the first two dives on air. Then do the other two/three on Nitrox. That way you can dive the full range of profiles available, and feel good at the end of the day.

Agree with what's been said. I've done 5 dives a day without nitrox. I tried to taper my depth during the course of the day and then a nice shallow night dive to cap it off. Looking forward to Nitrox though.

Like most of the others, I recommend diving nitrox while on a live aboard. The only hassel was sharing the boat's two analyzers with twenty other divers. If I ever get enough money together to do a live aboard again, I might invest in my own oxygen analyzer. I hear they run just under $100.

On a live aboard is the only time I've dove using nitrox. Most of the dive operations in my area don't even offer it.
