Ah ha, thanks Ron. So my cheap chargers could be a problem, perhaps the biggest problem.

I'm sure you're using higher quality batteries, too...!

Figrues. Cheap is as cheap does... :silly:

The brand of rechargeable battery that one uses is also a factor in this. I've noticed that certain brands of NiMH batteries seem to maintain high charge levels and long life more reliably than others.

My Sony branded camcorder and Makita branded video light batteries were much more stable in their characteristics over time than the third party batteries I've bought for both uses (Makita no longer makes the battery I need). The branded batteries were good for several years while the third party batteries seem to last just about the life of their warranty (but slightly past it). Hmmm.

Ok, I Googled enough to locate the C-204F battery charger - is that the suggested item? Found it new on Ebay for $10, nice!

Any suggestions on brands of batteries?

That's the one. Made by Maha. Here's another source (albeit more expensive). This is where I got mine ...plus the 2700 mAH batteries:

Haha, my source for the $10 item is out of stock. Easy to charge $10 for it when you don't have it. Guess it was a clearance.

Here's a link to your company offering it for $18.47 rather than $29.95: http://www.nimhbattery.com/maha-mh-c204f.htm but what is the difference in the models...?

Suggestions on batteries...??

No idea in terms of different prices from same dealer. Read the fine print. Must be something different about it.

As for batteries ...the highest power, longest lasting NiMH batteries on the market right now are the Powerex 2700 mAH. I own 4 sets (of 4) of them and use them in my 5050's. I change out batteries after every dive and recharge the used ones, but the ones coming out of the camera are still showing full power after a period of 1 hour constant use (camera on, focussing, charge triggering etc.)

The cheaper one is C204F, and the more-expensive one is C204W. Difference appears to be that the latter "will also charge the new ENELOOP NiMH rechargeable batteries from SANYO." Whatever those are. But I'll bet I'm about to find out here! :D

Nice to see this charger uses a multivolt power supply, so it can be used worldwide. Just need a plug adapter.

Ok, just ordered 2 of the new models. For $11 more we'll have the best I suppose: one black, one white, keep from getting them mixed up. Also ordered the suggested batteries. Thanks for your help...! :thumb:

:silly: Wonder how much junk I can take back to Walmart...?
