Since it looks like Dutch will still be frozen next week, does anyone have any plans for another spot?

Any other quarries open, anyplace not frozen?

What about a shore dive somewhere?

Or are any of the boats going out?
That would have to be a shallower dive for me, was supossed to get my pony from VT at Dutch!

HELP! Must get wet! Going through withdrawl!

Chris,

I am in the same place as you. I will dive anywhere this weekend. What about that place you went with the train wreck and the negative 5 foot vis? I know that Bainbridge is still frozen, so I don't think it will be open to divers that aren't ice certified. I'd do a shore dive, too, if we can find a spot..at this point I'd even drive to any place there is a beach and water (that isn't frozen).

Let me know if you're still up for it and maybe we can figure something out.

I'd be up for any dive, assuming it's not very expensive and within about 4 hours of Albany. I'm all anxious to get wet after I got excited about going back to Dutch.

We've got some momentum building now! I might search around a little tomorrow and see if I can find some info on shore dives around here. Looks like Sunday is the better day weatherwise, but I'd do either. Any preferences?

Frank

I might be in, but only on Sunday. Train wreck sounds cool, but, if I'm in, I'm in for anything. It all depends on whether some gear that's in for servicing is ready by then... I'll make a call tomorrow to see if I can have it for then.

A lot's changed since the nitrox/drysuit class where I met most of you guys - I now own a full set of gear except for a tank, and I also have what is perhaps the most crucial piece of equipment - my own car. It's been a good few weeks (well, not for the bank account, but hey, what's the point in having it if you're not enjoying it?)

I'll do the train wreck again, maybe we can actually find something this time! Let's bring some shovels!!! If we do, I'd recommend bringing lights, like you said -5' vis, plus it silts out pretty bad and pretty easilly.

But since most of the lakes and quarries are frozen, I wonder if the river is too, or at least parts of it? It's pretty close to shore in a shallow area, plus fresh water.

Here's a list of some shore dives. http://www.njscuba.com/njdiving/beach_diving.html
At this point I'm good for either day, but may get screwed with work, in which case Sunday would be better. If we do Sunday, XJae may be in too.

Also if we shoot for a shore dive, it may be easier to go to another spot if our first choice is frozen. The train would pretty much be a 1 shot deal. I guess I better finally start reading that page about tide tables!

Sounds like the shore dive is the way to go. Let's just shoot for Sunday--it looks like it is better for most of the interested divers. I will take a look at the link to NJScuba's shore dive info, but if anyone has a site preference/suggestion feel free to say so.

I am game for a shore dive Sunday, nothing around here is thawed, so its going to have to be something up ya'lls way. Just a reminder for those of you who dive DS often there deal for the discounted season pass expires the end of this month. I just got mine today, to bad i wont be able to use it till Apr.

I took a quick look at the recommended sites on NJ Scuba and I talked to Dive Junkie at TSC. From the NJ Scuba site I thought that the dual wrecks at Long Branch looked kind of cool and Dive Junkie recommended Shark River Inlet in Belmar. They're only about a 15 minute drive from eachother, so we could concievably do both.

Any opinions??

I agree that the dual wrecks look cool, and it's nice that there's an alternative nearby.
