One could argue that an underwater photography system is a single item as any one piece cannot complete the designated activity alone. So your 3k camera with a lens and 2k housing and a strobe is well over your $5k exemption. I realize it's a bit far fetched and I don't think many people will have to deal with it, but the abuse of this type thing that occurs in Mexico is well documented, and so it warrants paying attention to.
One could argue anything, but not successfully.
My lens is separable from my camera, my camera is separable from my housing, the strobes ae quite distinct, etc.
Why are you looking for fringe exceptions and unrealistic scenarios? Just to argue?

Why don't all you folks who seem to be worried about this stop going to Bonaire? Now, please.
It would make it so much more pleasant there. and airline seats wold drop in price.
Please.

Your engine, transmission, wheels, and body panels are all quite distinct and separable. Together they make up your car, your car is what you pay registration fees and taxes etc. on. You could ship your car in parts to save space and shipping fees, but you are still going to pay the customs due on the car.

Ridiculous. Not worth responding to.

I emailed Bonaire customs directly to request documentation of the process for Temporary Import Documents and I'm awaiting a reply, since Tourism CORPORATION Bonaire is not a government agency either. Their message provides no specifics and is "one post based on second-hand hearsay" that " isn't very compelling."
Here is what the Tourism Corporation Bonaire says:

The published exemption limit is $500, per the NL customs website, not $5000 as the tourism corp EXAMPLE claims and which you are now repeating as gospel.

You can invent all kinds of nasty scenarios. But remember it is a single non-separable piece of equipment worth more the $5000 that rings the bell.

I'll post Bonaire Custom's response when/if I get a reply from belastingdienst-cn.nl

which you are now repeating as gospel.
I provided the quote from TCB, without comment. That is hardly "repeating as gospel."
Your hyperbole is not becoming.
