Going to be on a cruise (my hubby's idea of 'being pampered') and was tossing around the idea of bringing my gear. Looking at the NOAA site, I could swear that it says the water temp is 71F! Is that right???

Oh my, that's almost tropic! If that is the right temp then I think I am going to try and arrange something.

Can anyone recommend a shop and a site?

Thanks!

Yes 71F is about right with the high 60's at 50fsw. I use Newport Diving Center when in Newport. Tom will take care of you. If you can get a charter to Gooseberry Island to dive the Arches GO! This place is a jewel! Tom has info on shore dives and even runs a dive Sat. AM.

From a Email I got this AM about a RI dive Sunday: "Topside it was an amazing day with bright sunshine and September type temperatures. The water temperature is over 70 degrees on the surface and is very comfortable at depth." Enjoy.

The thing I would add about the temperatures is that if you do a charter to any of the deeper offshore wrecks you could still see temperatures in the 50s below the thermocline.

Thanks for all the info!!

I'll check out the link you posted too. Sounds interesting.... a bbq AND a fish rescue! LOL Who are the fish being rescued from? :)

The fish are being rescued from a one way trip as they will soon die in November.

Last year r the year befoire we had a large thread were we were against taking of the tropicals by seining as it prevented others from seeing them. We were just kidding though and some divers get hard core about the tropicals.

There are no restrictions on taking them and they are free to take them and extend their lives in an aquarium.

I just wish they would do it on a Monday so I can join them and bring a few back to our nature center here at Rocky Neck State Park; the kids would love them as they freak over the pipefish even.

We were down at Ft Wetherill on Saturday and the H2O temp was between 69 ands 71.
We did see some people with large nets who I assume were collecting tropicals. I saw one small black fish with a yellow tail that I didn't recognize.

Let us know how you made out.

How's the snorkeling there at Ft Wetherill? The NEADC event looks like it would be fun.

With 2 coves and a lot of shallows on the right hand (west) side it was good. In fact when we have visited much of the tropical "rescue" activity was by skin-divers with float tubes to carry their catch tank (bucket).
