I'm a Fish!
Hi all, new to this!

Hoping to get to PADI this year for the CD course.
Anyone know where I can find cheap accomodation ? Or is that a silly Q?
Nearby is fine, can rent car. Bear in mind that nearby is relative (I live on an island 6 miles from end to end and 2 miles wide)

I would appreciate any help!!

What is CD?

Keep in mind that the written and pool portions will be held at Rancho Santa Margarita (about 30 miles from Newport Beach).

And if surf is more than 6 inches, they'll make you drive to Lake Paris (yuck!) for OW - 2 hrs driving.

I'd recommend staying somewhere in Costa Mesa. Cheap and relatively close to the beach and major freeways you'll take to RSM.

Archangel, CD pis Course Director. The person who is in charge of teaching PADI instructors.
Rakkis, you mean the whole presentation and orientation etc os conducted there? Need car or some form of transport? Worthwhile staying there?

Thanks by the way

If you've already enrolled, I would presume that your information is the most up to date.

However, All IEs do their pool/class/written days at PADI HQ @ Rancho Santa Margarita. Then the OW section is done at Corona Del Mar beach (City of Laguna Beach). If conditions aren't EXTREMELY good, they will change that to Lake Paris, two hours in land.

Look at google maps for an idea of where these places are.

Either way, you're coming to SoCal. You need your own transportation.

I recommended Costa Mesa because it's a "normal" relatively cheap area. I don't know of any place in Newport or Laguna that isn't overpriced "beach rental" property. Maybe someone else can suggest a place.

Perhaps you can find someone taking the same CD course you can rideshare with.

Automobiles are a necessity in the sunny state for all things...If we still had out houses we would drive to them in our automobiles...

Therefore you will need an automoble

CDM is part of Newport beach..Not Laguna beach which is some miles south.....

Bring money--and lots of it!

Cheers from California,

sdm

Oh Dear!
I don't like the sound of that "lots of money" bit.
Will check Costa Mesa.

Thanks very much guys!

I think he is doing the CDTC, so it may be different than an IE.

Sam is right! That was a brain fart on my part. CDM is in Newport Beach.

I realize that, but I cannot think of any reason why PADI would pay rent for different facilities when they have perfectly good ones for free.

Either way, I'm sure Bob_Murphy's instructions have all the details. I was just pointing out the fact that he will need a vehicle no matter what. Newport Beach alone is the size of his island.

Plus who walks in SoCal? Seriously :p

They should start holding IE/CDTC's at the Finding Nemo ride in Disneyland :)
