The following mask was bought at WalMart in Destin, Florida. It is a backup mask that I have used personally. Please read for content on the glass, then admit you were not being honest. It IS rated for diving. It also was about half the price of the SAME mask at the LDS around here that ALSO carries Aqualung/US Divers gear.

Thank you.

(BTW, I have two more here, also from Wally World, and both of THOSE also contain tempered glass lenses and are ALSO rated for diving.)

The rest of your attempt to shame someone into buying from an LDS may - just may - contain as much truth as the assertion you made above.

I dont live in florida and have never seen such a mask in a texas wal mart.
so this is not true in all cases THANK YOU!!!!!
And I just got a brand spankin new reg set as a new diver as well and guess who from. Bench tested and assembled at no extra charge. Some deal they free flow with out even being in the water once imagine that.I wont get into the cost i paid locally to remedy the problem. Some deal !!! ty liesure pro.
It was not an attempt to shame anyone . Just saying that saving money is not always the best policy ,nor does it always mean you truely end up saving anything and there is more to consider than price. I am not a shop owner nor do I work at one but I understand their value. If I had a sales background myself I ceartainly would not have paid 130 for a mask. He addmited he made a mistake and I agreed.Did I say buy everything from a dive shop no I did not .
I love it when folks take things outta context and run like hell...........

Don't get me wrong there are some good deals on line
but err on the side of caution and use a little common sense . For in the long run you stand to loose alot more than 60.00 in your hastiness.

some people refuse to see one little sentence and blow thigs way outta proportion.

Out of curiosity, is the mask skirt plastic or silicone? Either way, you have to realize that (unfortunately) the rest of the continent is *not* Destin. You will not find a glass/silicone mask in 99.9% of Wal Marts in this country.

I miss Destin. We used to go there every 4th of July when I was a kid and living in New Orleans. Nowhere else like it.

Makes no diff if it was plastic or silicone imo cept how long it will last .It is far fro the quality and design the guy got for 130. I would like to know what mask he got.Could care less bout the anal retentive individual living in the town that the world revolves around . Sounds as though he just wants to fuss at people out of context. Hey lets all move to Destin and dive outta wal-mart...........lmao

100% Silicone, and so is the strap. The only thing I've NOT seen is the black silicone skirts - I guess they figure they're not "cool" (at least not yet!) Wally here even sells diopter masks (this is new within the last six months or so.)

Yes, Wally World here does sell "cheap" (plastic lens) masks. Those are the $10 variety. These cost $20-25 or so.

Dang it...Now I need to go visit Wally World to see if I can get one of those.

Since the first message was titled some along the lines of "Newbies, don't make the same equipment mistakes I did", I have to mention MY mistake.

I got my small dive knife as was instructed on my list of items I needed for my OW class. Well, I noticed that it wasn't at all sharp. I had a flashback to childhood when my Dad said a dull knife isn't worth sh** and is more likely to injure you. Well, I got out my wetstone and now my dive knife has a beautiful sharp edge.....oops! It wasn't until later that I learned that a dive knife really shouldn't be all that sharp. Live and learn!

At least I know that if I ever get tangled in fishing line that is as thick as my arm, I can cut my way out! :-)

When I returned, they pointed out a nice small sign behind the register saying that they cannot return mask, snorkles and fins (?fins?) due to health codes.
That's a load of crap. Just do a chargeback on your credit card.

i can appreciate wanting to support your local shop, but there has to be a limit. i would have no problem paying 10-15% more to my local guy. however don't ask me to feel guilty because i found the exact same piece of equipment online(warranty and all) for 40% less. the SCUBA business is no different than any other one. if your prices are too high, people aren't going to buy from you, plain and simple. this is the way the world works now. the smart lds has to realize that in order to survive they need to be online(i.e. scubatoys). the local money they make will be from servicing, lessons, fills, trips, etc...the cavemen out there who want to fight this trend are wasting their time and energy. how many local hardware stores are doing well since home depot came around? is there anyone out there who still goes to their local video rental store since blockbuster came to town? unfortuneately, that's the way it is. i work very hard for my money, and scuba is a very expensive hobby. i'm not willing to throw away hundreds of dollars out of some misplaced loyalty to a store that charges $85 for a mask that cost them $25. thats not loyalty, its STUPIDITY!

Be sure to also find an online shop that will teach you to dive, give you air fills, and let you try on further dive equipment.
All for a hugh discount naturally.
SCUBA.COM!

But seriously, when I shop for a car, if I test drive it at a certain dealership...does this commit me to purchase it from them? Even if I find the same car 40% less down the road?
