Well I am back to report on my experience. I'll do a full report. But your are both right from what I saw. ONLY WHAT I SAW. All the critters are there that is true but the reef has a lot of brown on it and lacks the wow factor for me compared to Sipadan and Raja.

That being said I had one of the most wonderful vacations I have ever had. Everyone was saying you have to see Palawan and they were right. I flew into Coron and dove a couple wrecks it was ok to have done it with the history and all but the wrecks were not impressive and the growth and vis poor.

The Threshers sharks of Malapasuca absolute mind blowing. Seeing the shark in its natural environment, no feeding and a 99.99999% chance of the encounter with the animal

life must suck for you...

Ditto...lol

All of your incorrect assumptions and personal insults aside, maybe I can put you to good use, no biggie if I can't. Going to Taiwan for the first time, 3 dive days, if you've been, any educated opinions/recommendations?

North or South?
Personal experience/opinion only, nothing educated.
I had only dived three places down South: Green Island, Kenting and XLQ(near Kaohsiung). Mainly shore dive except couple of days on Green Island.
Language is the main issue for non Mandarin speaker or not understanding the written words. HK and Republic of ChinaTaiwan) are the only places where the traditional written Han Chinese(correct or educated form) are still being used.
Just came back from a short non diving trip to Kaohsiung and Tainan(the oldest city in Taiwan).
The street food in Taiwan is much better than Thailand because I can order it. LOL.
Have a nice trip.

We were researching, and we just think there isn't enough time to make it to Green Island even if we experience zero hiccups/delays. Do you think (south) Kenting is worth the trip, or should I stay and dive in Taipei? I was referred to Fun divers in Taipei, they speak English and dive out of the north; it would be shore diving, and they said you'll see dramatic rock formations. I just can't seem to find anyone who has dived more than one Taiwan dive area; most have dived Green Island only. The Taiwan section forums on here aren't very active, as it understandably isn't as desirable as other SE Asia locations

Stay in Taipei because you really do not have the time to travel to anywhere else. Flying is not an option because you will have no fly penalty. And the High Speed Rail does not go that far south.
Unfortunately Taiwan(ROC) is slightly off the beaten track from most tourists. I was the only non local diver in the three diving trips I made. However, you will find the locals extremely friendly. Rapid Transit in Taipei is excellent and every stop has English name so you won't get lost.
Enjoy your stay in Taipei and do not forget to visit National Palace Museum which is a MUST.

While Tubbataha is considered the best diving in the Philippines, it rarely appears in the top 20 list of the world's best diving locations.
Possibly because the "top 20 list" is a popularity contest, and the number of divers who can go to Tubbataha on the limited number of boats for a limited number of months is small.

If you can't find good diving in the Philippines, you aren't looking! Palawan is NOT my favorite but I did the wrecks and they are worth it for sure. Fly into Cebu and visit one (or all) of these places:

Malapascua (thresher sharks)
MoalBoal (sardine run)
Dauin (macro/muck diving and octopus plus day trips to Apo Island to see the coral)
Siquihor (just beautiful)
Bohol (turtles, walls, and coral)

I've been to Tubbataha too; it's nice, but mostly for big critters. I prefer small things and coral; so I won't do it again.

Yeah, that's why Puerto Galera is always listed; to me, it's too crowded and touristy. I'd rather go to Anilao. In Bohol everyone loves Panglao; I'd rather go to Anda.
