newbie LP inflator hose routing question

I've got a new eclipse that I'm trying to learn on, and it has some bungee on the left D-ring attatchment that the inflator hose runs through. The problem when I do this is that I have a hard time with trapped air in the BC. I've been looking through various images on the net, but I can't find a good closeup of the left shoulder and my JJ book has been packed in a box somewhere. Is this the right setup? Should the D-ring be moved higher? Could I bungee the LP hose off above the right D-ring? Am I just not doing something right?
 
Are you using the pull dump to dump the air out of the BC? (the one with the cord sticking out of it on the bottom of the wing.)
 
I find it easier to run just the LP hose through the bungie, it's smooth so the bungie moves along it much better.

Thats great in theory but not always practical.

During a recent Cenote dive my Eclipse developed a small leak in the inflator which caused me to continuely dump air to stay nuetral. At some points in the Cenotes you are in a heads up position and have no choice but to dump with from the top. Even with out the air leak there are many spots that you have to navigate while rising in a less than horizontal position in which case the rear dump would again be useless.
 
Maybe your bungee is to tight cause you should easily be able to dump air through the hose.... if you go a little horizontal there shouldnt be trapped air
 
And thats why there are two different ways to dump the air from the wing. Choose which one works for the situation. I was asking him that question because it appears that he might be trying to dump from the power inflator all the time. In open water, its easier to use the pull dump...
Every situation is different, and you might have to do things differently...

Also, since he is a self-described "newbie", I doubt he is doing any cave or cavern diving...

Agreed, I was reading your comment as if it was the only way to dump air. My bad.

My daughter just started diving an Eclipse. Don't attach the inflator to that bungee piece at the D-ring at all.

There should be a piece of inner-tube rubber higher up on the strap (if not, put one there). Put that piece close to the top of your shoulder strap and run the inflator through that. You'll be able to lift the inflator higher and dump more air, more conveniently.

OK sure.......There is no reason to add a piece of inner tube. Position of the tank/backplate/wing/D-ring all have to do with the ease of using the inflator hose to dump air. There is also a bit of a trick to the whole process.

I have never had trouble with dumping air from the wing but I have seen others have trouble. Usaly they bend the hose up at such an angle that the hose is pinched closed. Bringing the inflater end up a foot above your head is unnecessary, I dont think I raise mine more than above my ear. The water pressure will help to force out air in the wing.

If any thing loosing the bungee or useing a slightly larger loop will help. As I stated in the begining make sure the wing and plate are set up properly as far as relationship on your back if its too low you will have problems. The D-ring should be in the right spot to allow you to clip off bottles but not too low that you cant raise the inflator or too high that you cant clip off any thing.
