And just to give credit where credit is due: CDIVER and his wife are the wonderful people mentioned in the original post. I didn't even know they were Scubaboard people till after the fact.
There are some good folks on this board and I was lucky enough to meet two of them!

Chotzi, we did our first two ocean dives from Datura Avenue in March. You won't be disappointed!
Bring a compass (east out, west to shore), a dive flag (you won't need more than 25 feet of line, have some extra as the surface winds will pull it and don't fasten it to yourself), and a boogie board (for those days when the surfers show up -- snorkeling was no fun!)
My husband had the camera and I had the Reef Fish guide. From Datura south on first reef, we found a large anchor and a mound of coral with a curious eel in it, along with surgeonfish, yellow stingrays, and other tropicals. Going north of the anchor we found some tabletop-sized structures with many fish, including a large grey angelfish.
