Hello,

I am in New York on business and have Saturday July 15 available. I did not expect to have the time off so I did not bring ANY of my gear. I am staying with a friend on Manhattan (B'way at 102nd). I don't even know where to start looking for a boat. I would need to rent everything and it would be best if the boat was reachable by public transit...

Any suggestions?

I am able to dive pretty much in any conditions down to 150', but for planned decompression dives I would need all of the gear, so I am probably looking at a recreational trip. That is fine. Are dry suits appropriate here? Or is a thick wet suit the norm? I feel like a fish out of water and I am Jonesing hard!

Mark, I can't help you with the boats reachable by public transit. I usually dive out of Point Pleasant, NJ when I'm back east. Water temps are usually in the mid 50s, though, so I'd recommend a dry suit. As much as it will cost you to rent everything you need and pay for the trip, you might be better off waiting until you're reunited with your gear!

hey mark,

you might try giving village divers a call. i know they rent tec gear. http://www.villagedivers.com/
you can also try stingray divers in brooklyn, i think you can get there by train and maybe they can get you to a boat out of sheepshead bay. http://stingraydivers.com/

good luck.

Can't help re renting tec gear. But Jeannie II http://www.jeanne-ii.com/schedframe.html is in
Sheepshead Bay.

Personally I would not take a subway at that early hour (boat leaves at 6 or 6:30 am) with a bag of dive gear, not to mention tanks!
(although I think Capt Bill may haave tanks available)
