The MUD Club of S.W. Michigan will be bringing the New Year in under water again this year. We will be diving a local lake on the Cass / Berrien / Van Buren county borders with a max depth of about 20'. The non-alcohol party starts about 7:00 with the dive beginning at 11:45 and ending some time after Midnight, then back to the house for a hot cocoa one more snacks. :D EVERYONE IS WELCOME!:D

If you are interested, PM me and I will send directions to the party and the lake! For those of you who don't make it, check out the pictures after the dive and see what you missed.;)

I would love to dive with you again Jim, but New Years Eve won't work for me this time. I do hope to do the New Years Day Chicago lake front dive however. Hope you have a great dive over there, and I can't wait to see the pictures! Hey, if you get up early enough, shoot over to Chicago and join the group over there!

Dean, Sorry you won't make it. It was great diving with you on the Turkey dive. Keep an eye out and we will post our Ice dive or anything else we schedule. Have fun on the 1st. We sometimes go back and dive later in the day ourselves.

Hope everyone in the MUD club had a great New Years Eve dive. We in Chicago finished up our New Years Day dive this morning. We dove in Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago, right next to the Planetarium. Water temp about 37 degrees, and viz at best about 1 to 2 feet. But we got wet. I did find a bicycle as I was exploring. I suspose somebody pedeled a little too close to the edge of the seawall! Fortunetly, I didn't find a body with it! Happy New Year all!

Hi. This is the first i've heard of the "Mud Club". Where do you guys operate from? I'm n/o Detroit and always looking for somebody to dive with. I hear Lake Michigan has some great wrecks.

The MUD club has been around for well over 30 years. I have been a member for over 20. Most of us are located in Berri en County. We meet on the third Tuesday of every month at Andrews University in Berri en Springs. We dive at least once a month with some special dives every year. June is usually a weekend in Port Huron diving the River. July has become our week long camping / diving trip up in Alpena at the Thunder Bay preserve. (We may venture closer to the straights this year). November is the Turkey dive in the St. Joseph River @ Benton Harbor, and December is the New Year dive. (see my gallery for this years photo. We had 6 divers and 3 support) We will do an ice dive or two (or more) as soon as we get solid ice. I end up diving in the winter as much as I do the summer!

As far as the wrecks in Lake Michigan, we hit them at least once a year also. This year I think we may hit more of them since the MSRA is doing such a great job of locating the lost wrecks in this area. Check out their website @ http://www.michiganshipwrecks.org/ The "diving" page will give you an overview of what has been located in SW Lake Michigan.

I have started posting our dives dates on SB so others can join us. We welcome anyone who wants to get wet! Let me know if you want to join us some time and I will make sure you get directions and any help with accommodations and local Dive Shop support.
