Heard of the manager of the Inn of Last Resort that a new Wreck was sunk off Roatan. The ships name is Odyssey and it is 300 feet long, 90 feet high and 50 feet wide. It's shallowest point is at 40 feet, so all levels of divers can enjoy it. It was sunk off Mud Hole in a sandy patch that is surronded by reef. Can't wait to check it out on our next trip in June 2003.

Just got back from two weeks in Roatan, (stayed at Las Rochas, West End Beach). The wreck you are referring to was a joint effort of Anthony's Key and several other establishments in creating a new dive site. We understand it took 6 months to clean the ship out, (fuel bunkers and bilge and any other contaminents). When sunk it went down "straight as a die", and is resting upright on a sandy bottom.

Its a busy dive site especially with divers from Anthony's Key (starting at 8:00 a.m.), but the ship is large enough to accommodate a lot of "dive traffic". Since its a new wreck (2 months) there is very little marine growth and the big fish haven't set up home yet!

The visibility around the wreck was approx. 40 ft. when we dove it (still the rainy season).

Note: As a general warning,if you are beach walking from West End Beach to West End there is an armed bandito (knife) preying on unsuspecting tourists. Hopefully he has been caught by now (he hit 3 times during the 2 weeks...including our dive master).
