I used a pr of twin Jets yesterday day for the 1st time, and my legs were cramping like a champ. I was well hydrated and can corralate it to the fins, I know I was probabley kicking hard and not relizing it, are there any specific techniques that I need to practice to use split fins?

Split fins do take a slightly different type of kick.. and yes you were probably overkicking.. split fins were designed so that a LITTLE EFFORT is all that is required to propel the diver.. so the harder you kick ,, the less efficient they are.. Relax and enjoy the dive.. take your time.. you will get there.. and remember.. you will NEVER be able to catch up with the fish your trying to spear..

Relax. . . and make smaller, easier kicks, as if you were swimming without fins.

You will feel less resistance with splits. . . don't confuse this with less propulsion and kick harder. . . just relax and take it easy.

Post a coke alert next time!

Just heard somewhere that on both ends of the kicking amplitude you must give the last move with your ankle. It's a bit tricky but when you get there then twin jets are the best!

One man's opinion.

If you have to do that then why have split fins? Might as well use blades....right?

Folks, I really appricate the opinions you share, and as always, a few of you provided some advise while others provided comidy relief. So again Thanks to all of you.

I dove them this past weekend and loved them! I dive dry with dui rock boots and my blades where killing my ankles where the boot hit. I put on the twin jets and the surface swim was effortless, no rubbing from the boots and it took a lot less energy. I also noticed my SAC rate was a little lower, need to dive them a few more times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Try them again and do as the others said, no need to kick hard in these puppies.
