Hey Everyone,

I am from NY and am moving to Nashville in 2 Days. I am new to diving. I am 2 dives away from my open water certification. I need to find a place to finish my certification. I am looking for some suggestions on local dive shops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Heather

Lots of people involved with the KPP that have some answers to your question. I would contact GUEdiver, jbd, or ckharlan66 as they seem to know the most about the local diving areas where you are headed.

Not sure what Big-t is answering, but welcome to the board, and sometimes you will get responses that actually match up with the initial thread subject.

Ummm yeah...maybe you should re-read her post....

Heather is looking for someone with answers about diving in the nashville area....she posted in th KPP forum....the three guys I mentioned know a lot about local diving in the area....as a matter of fact, 2 of them are instructors that can help her finish her certification....I guess I could explain in more detail, but I don't know what else to say.

Hi Heather - I've been in Nashville for about 2 years - I can't help you with 'local' diving since I don't know where to go - but I'd be glad to join you when we find out! I *can* help with restaurants, etc
Jen:)

of any local shops in Nashville but there are some quarries to dive in around there.

Hopefully someone who knows the area will recommend a shop that can complete your cert. If not I know some good instructors up here and we are going to go to Martha's (a quarry near Nashville)sometime this summer If you haven't worked anything out by then I am sure one of them would be happy to finish your checkouts.

Welcome to our part of the world and to scubaboard. There are several places reasonably close to dive "locally". We would be glad to have you join us on any of our excursions underwater.

Welcome to Nashville! Which agency have you been training with? My favorite local shop is Scuba Supply, which is also the closest Nashville shop to the local quarry. There is also a shop and training on the quarry premises.

I haven't taken any classes from Scuba Supply (or any other shop in Nashville for that matter), but they treat me very well and I trust them with my gear. And coming from me, that says a lot. :)

I don't want to name names, so before you commit to any shop, be sure to check it out in the archives here and on scubadiving.com's message board archives. Consider this a warning.

I have been with a PADI shop. I will take your warning into consideration when looking at shops.

Thanks

Hey Heather:

Have you found an instructor to complete your certification? If not I'd be happy to see if I could help you. Just e-mail me at caind@c-bnc.net and we can go from there.

As far as shops go, I have dealt with almost all of them. One shop in town has a bad name and everyone would tell you to avoid it. But the shop was bought out and the person that was the problem is now gone. I do know the new owner and he seem nice and honest.

Most diving around here is in the quarries. Martha's Quarry, Dive Cerulean, Cerulean, Ky, Rock Divers, Huntsville Alabama.

You can also dive Center Hill Lake and Dale Hollow Lake. These are the local site... Well depends on your definition of local.

I run a lot of trip to Panama City Beach, Fla. It is a 7 to 8 hour drive and makes a great weekend dive trip.

Well, I hope this helps you out.
