My wife and my inlaws will be w/me in Cozumel 2/26-3/6 .I am staying at the pres.intercontinental.I will like a refresher course and to make a few dives .My exp.is limited,as I was certified/padi last Febuary and have not dived since.Anyone have suggestions for a dive operator for my skill level ,I do not want to hold up other divers or be pushed to depth to accomadate others. My plans include kiteboarding up at the country club area if the wind is up so I was hoping to be flexable with the plans.p.s. anyone here been flyfishing for bonefish on the north flats?

Hi H20! I'm so happy you get to share Coz with your outlaws. If you go to Blue Angel dive op you can do some shore dives for free if you buy some boat dives from them. You could buddy up with someone hanging around the shop or ask for a refresher, recommended. Dont fret about blowing dives on other divers, generally the DM will surface you when your done your air and the rest can continue. The boat will pick you up immediately. Also when you do your refresher, your outlaws can watch you waddle into the ocean from the outdoor restaurant right above you. Just say hi to Pony and Martin pronounced Marteen. Say Kevin from Edmonton on this forum suggested them, you will be well looked after. just let it happen-kev

The in house dive op at the Presidente is Scuba Du, (Welcome to Scuba Du Cozumel dive shop) and like just about every dive op on the island they can cater to a new diver because they are a teaching op too. If however you would prefer a small op that can both get you under the surface, and guide your skills until you are very comfortable down there the following are just a few with great reputations, and in no particular order. Dive with Martin, Blue XT Sea, Scubatony, Dive with Alison, Pelagic Ventures and there are many more, BUT you don't have long to reserve a space on one of their boats so I recommend thinking as to which way you think is best for you & contacting at least one or 2 of them now.

We are staying at the Presidente next week, but always dive with other operators that give us more flexibility than Scuba Du. Some good operators were mentioned in a post above, and now is definitely the time to contact them.

You're right not to want to feel pressured to dive a site or profile you don't feel ready for. A good operator will try to match skill levels within a boat to minimize such pressure. For not much money, some ops (BlueXTSea is one, but I'm sure there are others) will provide a private divemaster for you so you can have all the fun you want without worrying about whether you're well-matched with a buddy.

SCUBA DU is GREAT for beginners. Super cautious, friendly, and professional. I'd use them. They are right at the hotel and will make your life a little easier.

We did our open water certs and first dives in Cozumel with Scuba Du. They were a great operator and we had no complaints.

My vote would be for ScubaTony.com (Tony Anschutz). I used him last year for my first dive trip after being certified with a friend of mine that had also just gotten certified and he and his crew were exceptional. They worked very closely with us to make sure that our buyouancy skills were fine tuned and they offer excellent equipment for rent.
