i will be buying a new regulator in the next couple of weeks and i wanted to stick with scuba pro.. what regulator do you recommend by them?? do i need to buy the mk25 or could i go with something cheaper? any differences?

If I had the money right now,I would buy the mk17-g250v,good in cold water good in warm water and the 250v has the metal air barrel in it to help with mouth dryness, something I hate which is why I use the old metal body second stages 109 and 159 balanced adjustables, but they are a little heavy but you can use them for a hammer if need be.

Hello nofr1ends99,

Tell us what sort of diving you anticipate doing so we can better advise you.

The Scubapro MK17g250V is fast becoming the Scubapro Reg of choice,Why?
Enviromentaly Sealed First Stage.
The second stage internal parts are metal.
The second stage is adjustible for assured comfort at depth.
The MK 25 is great for everthing but diving in exstreme cold waters, thats were having a sealed first stage comes in handy.
So i recommend doing it right the first time,MK17/g250v.
Ask DA Aquamaster he switched from MK25 To MK17:D

My Avatar is a MK19/g250v
You cannot get the MK19 in US,The only difference with the MK19 and MK17 Is that the MK19 Has a swivel turet.
the MK17 has ports in various places for good hose routing.
I would really like the turet but according to SP they will not offer it in us.

im not really sure.what do you mean?

Hi nofr1ends99,

For sure the M17 with a G250 can be recommended (also worth the money) if you will be doing tech, cold water or deep diving. But if your diving taste is for every day recreational diving then allow me to cut and paste my usual post:

My recommendation for the average recreational diver, i.e. not freezing water, 150 feet or less, is a simple non balanced piston 1st stage such as the Scuba Pro MK 2 (or Aqualung Calypso, Mares R2, Sherwood Brute and a few others.) This simple design is usually inexpensive, nearly bullet proof, easy to get parts for and easy and inexpensive to service. It is also easy to DIY because it requires only a few o-rings and a seat. Yes, the unbalanced design will increase the breathing effort at low tank pressure, but I view this as a good thing especially for new or inexperienced divers. See this thread: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/regulators/87374-scuba-pro-r190-2.html

Additionally, if/when one wants to start more advanced diving where high concentrations of oxygen will be used this type regulator can be moved to that application.

For a second stage I like an adjustable and balanced unit. This provides the ability to have the regulator tuned to minimum inhalation resistance with the option of the diver increasing the resistance it if he/she finds the need to. Having said that, a straight forward classic downstream design with a simple to replace set of o-rings and button soft seat can be highly recommended as it is a tried and true design, parts are usually available and almost anyone can service them.

It is a good idea to have the same manufactures 1st and 2nd stage to make getting service less complicated.

For more demanding diving and high end/higher performance (higher price) regulators see the following link for DA's excellent advice.
