Is Leisure pro a good place to bye a regulator? I have seen some realy good prices from them.I have been told that they were pirated or something by my LCD, is this true?

Pirated? No... but they are considered grey market to a lot of manufacturers. All that means is that you will not get the free parts for life that companies offer. "such as Aqualung, Apeks, Scubapro" You can save some money when buying from Leisure Pro, but I prefer buying my life support equipment from my LDS. That way my LDS tests, setups and adjusts my equipment. I get a couple of free years of service for my equipment and if anything goes wrong all I have to do is drive a couple miles to get it sorted out "instead of waiting 2 weeks for Leisure Pro to receive and repair it". There's a lot of mixed opinions about this and I'm sure there will be plenty of people telling you the other side, but this is what works for me. ;)

Chipwd,
Just as a point of information, the AL ACD system is a MECHANICALLY opened closure device. The closure device is physically opened and held open when the yoke is tightened into place. Gas pressure is not required. As opposed to Oceanic's PNEUMATIC closure system where the device is held open by gas pressure. To the best of my knowledge, there have been no problems with the AL system, but the Oceanic system has had a few growing pains.

Also, the Legend octo is indeed identical, except for the color of the faceplate and yellow hose, to the standard Legend second.

keyshunter, thank you for this clarification. I just assumed it was activated by air pressure because when I purged the air from the reg and removed it from the tank I could see the little hole at the top of the first stage close up. Maybe I'm not explaining it well but you get the gist of it. Anyhow, thanks again.

OP - visit Aqua Lung Regulator Range for details on AL regs.

The Glacia has a Legend first stage and a specific cold water second stage. I stand by the Legends for breathability. (Is that a word?) I have over a hundred dives on my Legends in all sorts of conditions and never a problem. Great regs!

are there anyontjer opinions on Leisure pro. I would like to know because my dive shop quoted the GT3 at $350 and leisure pro came up with $199, plus they are cheper on the higher end regs. Can anyone help me?

The best price I can find on line is $299. It's a great regulator and at $199, I'd be hard pressed to pass it up.

I have contacted my LDS and they told me that lesur pro was not a reputable dealer and I should not bye from them. Can anyone tell me wether or not this is true? I would like to get a GT3 because of the price.

Tell your LDS that Leisurepro is now an authorized Oceanic dealer (see Authorized Dealer Locator - Oceanic Worldwide - Scuba and Snorkeling Gear, Scuba and Snorkeling Equipment and Dive Gear) and that their prices aren't much better than anyone elses any more. (not gray market) Then ask them if they will price match. :D

They have sold more scuba gear than just about anyone else on the planet so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that they have a few satisfied customers in addition to good prices. Scubatoys sells Oceanic too and they have excellent customer service as well as good prices.

If your LDS can get close to either one of those in price, buy from your shop. Otherwise... Definitely give your shop a chance to compete, though.

No, there are no opinions on SB about leisure pro. I don't believe the topic has ever come up on the board. ;)

That is a pretty sweet price. My rule of thumb is that if I can't save more than 15%-20% buying it online I will just buy it at my LDS. I would rather have someone I can take it back to for service, tweeking, etc. I have to have someone I can look straight in the face and talk to.

I also hate shipping charges and those stinking lag times for something to go back and forth in the mail. God forbid I have to mail it back. That is such a drag.

HI, I have recently finished my OW certification and I am looking for a reg. I would like to eventually get into tec and wreck, but for now I am looking for experience. I will be primarily diving in cold water. I have talked with several people from my local dive shop ; the all suggest the oceanic GT3. can anyone give me some advise on this and other good cold water regs? Thank you.
