evad:Received my Mach V a couple of days ago and it looks fantastic. Great finish. Thanks
COVCI and Oxycheq for the price and quick service. I just discovered that I prefer using a STA. I don't detach the wing from the backplate when I rinse it, it only weighs like 6 #s (1/2 # for the STA) I hope this doesn't make me too much of a lazy idiot but I remove the inflator hose then run water through it with a garden hose and partly fill the wing, slosh, and turn the whole thing upside down. I have found missing (redundant) zip-ties this way that I might otherwise not have noticed.
I'm sure idiot was much too strong of a word in the passitionate debate, but I really thing the 15 to 30 seconds it takes to remove it from the plate does allow a much better bladder rinse. Yes, I am anal about the rinse --- a long time ago (10+ years) I took a bladder out of a wing to patch it. I was shocked to see the amount of salt crystals I had in there --- even thought I thought I did a good rinse. After that experience, I shake the crap out of the wing and it is a lot easier to do it with the plate and wing removed.
I am sure I could not shake the wing like I do with the plate attached. The other reason I like to keep it seperated is that I don't want anything hard near the wing that can damage it. I also keep them blown up when I am done.
Please post a report on the wing after you dive it. Hopefully, you will like the way it dives as much or more than the appearance.
Now, back to finish the lead in the weighted STAs --- what a way to spend a Saturday.
Best regards,
Patrick
