RonFrank:
If you are sure you want this camera, the best bet is to get on some lists ASAP. Those that got on the D200 lists in early Novermber got their camera's in general in the first wave which I *think* was early December. Those that waited genreally did not see product until late January if by then. The D200 remains sold out at most retailers 9 months after the release, but they are not that hard to find at retail from authorized dealers within a few shopping days for the savvy shopper. Once I decided to get mine, it was on the way in two days, so not THAT hard to get a hold of even if it took a bit of time looking online.

One would think that Nikon would learn from thier past mistakes, however for whatever reason they seem unable to keep up with demand for new products upon every major release (D200/18-200VR/105mm macro and even the outragous 200-400F4 VR).

Ron, I think at least we got some luck this time, the sea & sea version will be ready 2 months after Sept:

I think the waiting list thing can help the manufacturer a bit to estimate the amount needed...

So maybe we got some luck this time, at least the sea & sea version will be ready on Nov,

I like Nikon!

Beautiful babe

Subal is hoping to show an SLA prototype at the Dema Show, and ship within the next month... So it could be an early Christmas Present :)

I've been told Sea & Sea expects to ship in November, so the estimate on the web page is correct. I'm not sure that the picture linked isn't a DX-D50, though... The housings will look nearly identical, utilizing the aluminum front/poly back that the DX-D50 and DX-350d did.

I don't have an estimate for Ikelite, Nexus, Hugyfot, etc.

The real question will be.... how easy will it be to get a D80?:D

It's not looking too hard to get a D80 - at least until the reviews get out and sales volume picks up. RitzCamera had lots in stock and people were ordering them on Friday to ship out on Tuesday (I did). Ritz seems to be on of the first big distibutors to be shipping. I'm cancelling my original pre-order with Adorama.

I feel bad for the folks who bought a D70(s) housing and now can't upgrade without shelling out lots of money. This is my first dSLR, so I don't have any prior investment (besides my point and shoot Ike gear). For land photography, people my not feel the need to upgrade from a D50 or D70, but for underwater photography, I think that the bigger viewfinder, LCD, and 10MP sensor will be invaluable. I find no shame in cropping and will definitely appreciate the larger sensor. Of course, everything seems bigger, coming from a 5MP Oly C-5060.

David;

I am pondering moving up to a D80 from my fuji E900 and would appreciate more info or reviews, as you get your camera and system.

I haven't heard anything from Fantasea yet on the new Nikon and Canon, but I'm sure they/10Bar will have something in the works soon.

HERE is Phil's *preview* of the D80. It's going to be a great camera, so if you are thinking Nikon on a budget, this is the one. Now the hard part... what lenses will you buy!

Ryan, if you follow the link, you'll see that the housing is from the original page for DX-D80.

The "発売予定は11月頭を予定!" thing, means "Expected purchase date on early November!". I can read a bit and I also use online translator v. often for other languages ;-)
No sweat, it will come with the right look!

My point was that I would be surprised if they neglect to offer the AF-L control, and am hopeful that they weren't able to get it on that pre-production housing in time for the release party.

The Japanese release posted yesterday on the Sea & Sea site also omits AF-L, but these are subject to change. The photo on the press release for the DX-5d didn't have a front command wheel control, but the production housing did.
