Noticed a string of spam in the last few minutes with hyperlinks in them from multiple newly created accounts with only a couple of posts to their credit. Is this suppose to be blocked, or is it only URLs themselves that can't be posted from new accounts?

Spam is usually deleted in but a few minutes. We have a lot of active mods who pay attention to spam like threads. Occasionally they sneak by in a post.

So... I'm not sure specifically what you're talking about... but there should be a URL posting restriction in place for new members with less than 5 posts.

Yes, thanks go to the mods and others for stomping on those posts. It's unfortunate they have to do it so constantly.

It seemed like this 5-post restriction might not be working consistently, since some of last night's spam with working links included in the text were posted by new user accounts with only two or three posts to their credit. Unfortunately, I didn't screen shot any of them before they were deleted, but FWIW I did hit the Report button.

Apparently the 5 post thing was a hack that the former admin installed on the old version of vbulletin.

I'm not so sure if I want to engage further restrictions when the downside is minimal.

Deleting spam is easy... not hard. Discouraging new posters though won't remedy itself easily. If real newbies are discouraged, then they won't come back.

Having an automatic spam assassin also can possibly prevent real users. I saw a spam post last only 3 minutes on SB. What is really the big deal?

Since we now know the old 5-post filter isn't there any more and the function is being adequately handled other ways, IMHO this particular thread seems to have been resolved.

Yes, agree that any additional roadblocks for new users isn't really achieving enough and so isn't worth the cost.
