Hi all,

Well in 72 hours I've moved down to San Diego, gotten a job and secured a place to live. Now that the semantics are over with, I want to dive! Could anyone out there point me in the right direction to find some good shore diving? I figure dive boats can give me information if I go out with one of them but my buddy and I like to shore dive, I understand most of it is in La Jolla? I moved down here from Monterey so that is my reference area. Any websites or recommended dive shops would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to So.Cal.!!! Hope to see you in the water someday.... I live two hours north but I have family in SanDiego so I do get down to dive there a bit.
Yup. LaJolla shores and cove are the first to come to mind but there is others... A great site for SD diving is: Divebums - A San Diego Dive Website . Alot of ScubaBoarders are active there also.
I'm sure they will chime in here soon.
Also, up the coast line is the Laguna options ... check out our BeachCrabs here also ...

I'm also new to SoCal (in LA). Check out some LDSs and join a couple of their dive clubs (the most active ones) so you can meet more divers in your area you can tag along with to learn the area.

Pick up a copy of the book Southern California's Best Beach Dives.
And check out California Diving News - The Premier Website for California Divers

Welcome to SoCal.

La Jolla Shores is the most dependable shore dive, OEX express is the closest dive shop to it; it's kinda small but you can get air there and rent tanks. The shores is good if you like looking as slugs. (nudies) La Jolla Cove is a game preserve and has lots more to see if the visibility is good (call the beach report at 619.221.8824 for their guesstimate). Most of the shore dives a pretty shallow, you have to swim out a 1/4 mile to get down 20 feet, but they can be nice when there is no surf. Wind-n-sea reef is one of my favorites.

You might want to check out some dive clubs at the shops. The Dive locker Welcome to the Diving Locker has a club that costs about $100 per year and gets you free dives off their boat.

Welcome to San Diego. Just saw your post, so it may be a little bit late...but we've got a group going on a night dive tonight at the Shores. Check out store's website at ScubaTemecula.com

Dive briefing is at 7pm at Kellogg Park.
