Cool - Which head did you go with for your Helios 9?
Eric

There's no option. Since its 18 watt there's only the old style head, the one with the big wide ballast. New style head is for 10 W only unfortunately.

I think there will eventually be a new 18W head too. When that happens I'll likely upgrade my head as the current one is large.

thanks for the reply, belated though it may be.

sorry, I didn't sign up for mail notices and I lost track of the thread.

no biggie, I don't like getting tons of email updates either.

edit: Why the bigger light? Wanted more light in the wrecks? Let us know what you think about the 18 vs the 10. I've heard several people say the 18 is too much in confined spaces, but I have a hard time believing that. (sounds like they are convincing themselves more than anyone else)

gee, I just can't get enough of this thread...

may I suggest you start another thread comparing the new 10 watt head and its performance to that of your new 18 watt? I'm sure a lot of people would be interested that may not find it here.

Has anyone compared the new and old Halcyon 10W heads side by side as far as light output is concerned? The new head looks like a considerably smaller reflector.

How do they look, side by side?

Cheers

It is smaller... but since it is polished (and being behind glass should stay that way)... it *seems* to put out more light. However I haven't compared them side by side.... we sent our old ones in and just received the replacements last week.
