So my local dive shop had a great tent sale yesterday. I had already signed up for my class and club card and needed gear for the class.... I ended up walking away with a damn good deal! I bought a Sherwood Scuba Rona mask, Tusa Z3 fins, Tusa Hyperdry II Snorkel, Akona Full Wetsuit, XS Scuba wheeled meshbag, and Scuba Pro Booties. I am stoked to try all of it out in my classes. Tell me what you think of the set up!

Thanks

I'm not an expert and I use MARES, but I can tell you as a new diver, having your own gear compare to renting is pretty sweet and you actually end up diving more often. Enjoy !!!!

Just don't forget to buy a back-inflate when the time comes ;)

If you like it, everything fits well, and you feel you got a good price then you did good :)

However, I would have skipped the fancy snorkel (you are scuba diving after all), and the split fins. There is nothing wrong, just personal taste.

Also make sure you try to suck your mask to your face with the snorkel in your mouth. That will be a better way to tell if you have a mask that will really fit while on scuba.

I am with Scuba-dan on this one. My wife and I just completed our OW last weekend with our own gear. We went up in January but she ended up having to wait because of her back and I had a hard time breathing (rental gear + Sudafed). Last weekend with my own gear was soooo much better. My wife also preferred her gear to the rental gear during the pool work. I personally use Scuba Pro splits and love them. I get plenty of thrust out of them SO FAR (for those that don't like them) and they are easier on my knee.

Good luck in your class, I hope you have a great time with it. Remember to relax and breathe easy. If your agency works the way mine did, you will do a short skills drill and then a swim around. Just keep this in mind, take your time, complete your skill and then have fun. There is nothing that says you have to rush thru your skills. Oh also, I used the trick from Bad Boys (the movie) where I rubbed my ears and chanted "Ooosaw" (spelling?). It really worked for me and made my wife and instructor crack up. :D

Curse you Basic Scuba discussion forum rules

:)

I'm not familiar your particular gear choices, but if the wetsuit and booties and mask are all good fits, they should serve you well.

Try on lots of BCDs before you spring for your own....find out what you need and what works well for you. If you can try before you buy, so much the better. Good luck and great diving!
