I'd love to see a new forum for Agency Bashing. I've noticed recently that when new divers ask questions about classes and training that the threads turn into an agency bashing free for all. Heck, even threads that have nothing to do with classes and training have turned into 'my agency is better than yours' forums.

I'm not saying that there aren't changes that could be made in ALL agencies that could benefit divers but I'm just so tired of reading all the same arguments made by all the same people when threads are hijacked.

It's the ones that do all the agency bashing (particularly PADI) that I have no interest whatsoever in diving with. Period.

True agency bashing is not allowed, neither is thread hijacking. Please report these posts for us so we can take appropriate action.

What IS agency bashing, exactly?

Saying something that someone else doesn't like.

From www.Dictionary.com

v. intr. Informal
To engage in harsh, accusatory, threatening criticism.

Not all that is decried as being agency bashing is. Disliking an agency (even intensely) or criticising it's actions or policies does not neccesarily constitute "bashing". However, misrepresenting their policies in a negative light and/or being obsessive in trying to discredit an agency is probably bashing.

Bashing is a tough one. I think that it requires unfair accusations. But... what's fair can be a matter of opinion. So much for that definition.

In its most obvious form, the basher knowingly misrepresents the truth in order to support their criticism. But we don't see that much around here.

well, I am often critical of PADI since that is "my" agency and I think that divers should be informed when dealing with PADI...or any other agency. If I was NAUI, it would be them, I guess. I contend you have different vantage points in the relationship and in order to responsibly deal with them, it involves a little due diligence.

Hey Pete, can you report this thread to yourself- I saw "bash" and "bashing" in this thread multipe times?

Uh, I also saw you using "bashing", how do you give yourself a vacation?
